If you want a clean,...
Liked: This was the splurge place for our trip. Based on the pictures and the previous reviews, I knew it would not disappoint. And it most certainly did not. Beautiful, clean and comfortable. There were times we did not want to leave the room! Nice location, in the city but just enough away. Very clean. Quiet. The Postmaster's Bakery is about a block away. Also, parking permits available for use - very nice!
Disliked: Given the luxurious nature of the Balmoral House, the breakfast, while decent, didn't quite match up. That said, the Postmaster's Bakery is less than a 5 minute walk away.

We loved it.
Liked: This is a very quiet and mature B&B. It is in an old house, probably built in the years after the Great Fire of 1892 in St. John's, and has been lovingly restored by David, who came to Newfoundland in the very early 1990's. He is very happy to discuss the history of the house and the marvelous restoration work that he has performed.Breakfast is in the dining room on the main floor and is very much a "help yourself" arrangement, which we found to be a very homey affect. The kitchen is open during the day, so you can help yourself to tea, coffee, etc at any time. The room that we had, #1, was on the second floor and looked directly over the harbour and out the Narrows (the entrance to St. John's harbour). The room is big, with a very comfortable double bed, and a sitting area - delightfully relaxing. The bathroom was a nice size with a stand-up shower that had very good pressure and temperature control.Balmoral is situated very close to downtown without being "downtown". It is an easy 10 minute walk to the restaurants, shops and sights of historic Duckworth and Water Streets. In a nutshell, we loved our stay in Balmoral. It easily rivals some of the very nice B&Bs that we were fortunate to have visited when we lived in northern Europe. Thanks David.
Disliked: In short, nothing. For us it was a bit of a splurge, but you get what you pay for.

Great location, wonderful host, excellent...
Liked: The host, David, is there at breakfast and is a wealth of information. He’s friendly and easily available. In the room, I liked the detachable shower head in the bathroom, as well as the solid hook for hanging things on the back of the door - important details. The room (1) had a nice view of the harbour and the colourful houses.Good air conditioning/heat system if needed. Two chairs and a coffee table were very convenient. Everything was clean and well-maintained.Excellent street parking & guests are given a permit while staying there. Location is also excellent.
Disliked: One-ply TP was off-putting. It didn’t suit this wonderful b&b to cut back on quality like that. We bought our own at a nearby pharmacy. This is picky, but the dried flower arrangements in our room needed dusting. Not a big fan of these anyway, for a bedroom.
