a terrible and shocking experience

Disliked: I booked a room at the Berlin Ballhaus hostel and paid by card. I arrived at the hostel on July 24, 2025, completed check-in, and went up to my room. Upon arrival, there was a female guest in the room, who told me it was a women's room. Thinking there had been a mistake, I tried unsuccessfully to reach a staff member. Since there was no hostess, reception, or staff, I tried to reach someone. It took 25 minutes to reach someone. The person was very rude on the phone, asking why I had booked that room and angrily telling me to leave the room and the hostel immediately. I explained that there was no such information on their website, or that there had been a problem due to insufficient information, and asked them to provide me with another suitable room. However, they told me they wouldn't give me a room at their hostel and that I should get lost. They also said they wouldn't refund the fee. The hostel not only refused to accept me in the room I paid for, but also refused to refund my money or give me another room. The hostel is very poorly maintained, dirty, smells damp, and if you can reach it, the staff is very rude. They don't answer the phone if we encounter any problems. You should definitely stay away.

Liked: The rooms were large and clean. The bathroom/toilets were clean as well. Overall we had a pleasant stay, especially because the hostel is located in the midde of the center and close to Berlin Hauptbahnhof.
Disliked: The price overall was fine, if not a bit on the expensive side. With checking-out it was not completely clear what to do.
