The Spotlight on Auberge du Plateau

Affordable and Artsy Stay in Montreal’s Lively Plateau

Modern hostel vibes meet classic Montreal charm at Auberge du Plateau, nestled in the heart of the Plateau-Mont-Royal district. With its rooftop terrace overlooking the city, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary continental breakfast, this laid-back spot is just steps from buzzing nightlife and a short walk to public transit, making it a smart pick for concert-goers who want to stay close to the action.

Why Concert-goers love it

The location couldn’t be better for catching a show — just a 5-minute walk to Sherbrooke Metro Station and 10 minutes to Berri Uqam, you’ll have late-night transport options covered. After the gig, head back to chill on the rooftop or in the cozy TV lounge. Whether you're in a private room or a dorm, it’s a quiet enough place to wind down, especially compared to louder downtown spots. The hostel’s flexible vibe makes it easy to come and go on your own schedule.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for budget-friendly digs with a social feel
- Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list concert
- Couples on a weekend music getaway
- Fans who want a peaceful place to recover after the encore
- Budget-conscious music lovers who prefer spending on tickets, not beds

Food and Drink Options

While there's no on-site restaurant, the shared kitchen is fully equipped for late-night snacks or pre-show meals. A continental breakfast is served daily — perfect for slow mornings after a late night. The hostel is just around the corner from St-Laurent and St-Denis Streets, packed with restaurants, bars, and cafes that serve well into the night.

Nightlife Options

You’re steps away from some of Montreal’s best nightlife. From indie bars to jazz lounges, there’s no shortage of options nearby. While the hostel itself doesn’t host live music, its location makes it easy to bounce between after-show drinks and local venues. The rooftop terrace also offers a chill spot to recap the night with friends under the stars.

What People Say

Guests rave about the friendly staff, clean rooms, and unbeatable location. Many highlight the rooftop terrace as a standout feature, especially during warmer months. Reviewers also mention the hostel's relaxed and social atmosphere as a major plus for travelers heading to events or festivals.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms don’t have air conditioning — just fans — so summers can get a bit warm. The 8:00 AM check-out time is on the early side, especially after a late-night concert. And while the dorms are cozy, light sleepers may prefer a private room for more quiet time.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Montreal for a show and want a budget-friendly, social, and central place to stay, Auberge du Plateau hits all the right notes.

Wonderful, clean, cheap hostel with...

Liked: overall amazing, super comfy and cute room. we transferred here from another hostel that smelled like feet (parc ave hostel, DO NOT GO THERE IT SMELLS LIKE FEET. and is overall unclean and very concerning. and overall weird. AND FEET SMELLY!) and we got an amazing nights sleep here. literally 2 blocks from the part of st-laurent blvd with all the bars/clubs, so made it super easy for late-night going back.
Disliked: nothing, really! everything was clean and comfortable, the staff were super friendly, etc. nothing i didn't like!

The experience was extremely unpleasant,...

Liked: Nothing was good.
Disliked: I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the experience I had at your accommodation. Upon arrival, I found that the rooms did not match the photos advertised. I encountered old, rusty bunk beds with an unclean appearance, as well as extremely small or communal bathrooms, both unsuitable for comfortable use.In addition, when I was assigned to a mixed dormitory, I was faced with three men who harassed me, asking for money and making intimate questions. This situation was both distressing and unsafe, which led me to leave the room immediately.I requested a private room, but the receptionist was rude and informed me that there was no availability. Considering that I did not stay in the room and that my spot was likely given to another guest due to the alleged overbooking, I am requesting a full refund of the amount paid.I would not want anyone else to go through a similar situation. The experience was extremely unpleasant, unsafe, and frustrating, and I do not recommend this establishment. They acted in bad faith. I paid for something I never even used!

Not much to rave about...

Liked: Really good location, 24 Sherbrooke bus stops right at the hostel at hotel de ville avenue. The breakfast at 8am was basic but nice if you don't know what to have in the morning (mini home made pancakes, toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and jams/jellies, coffee/tea).
Disliked: The staff give you bed/pillow sheets and an old blanket upon check in and you have to put this on your bed yourself if you're sharing a room with other Solo travellers. There wasn't much space for personal belongings in the room itself. There was also no shampoo or body soap available in the shared shower rooms which really should be part of basic amenities.

Great Stay in the Heart...

Liked: I stayed one night at Auberge du Plateau and was very pleased with the experience. The location is great, close to the city center and easy to get around. The room was clean, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the breakfast was excellent — a perfect start to the day. A cozy and convenient spot for anyone visiting Montreal!
