The Spotlight on Auberge du Plateau

Affordable and Artsy Stay in Montreal’s Lively Plateau

Modern hostel vibes meet classic Montreal charm at Auberge du Plateau, nestled in the heart of the Plateau-Mont-Royal district. With its rooftop terrace overlooking the city, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary continental breakfast, this laid-back spot is just steps from buzzing nightlife and a short walk to public transit, making it a smart pick for concert-goers who want to stay close to the action.

Why Concert-goers love it

The location couldn’t be better for catching a show — just a 5-minute walk to Sherbrooke Metro Station and 10 minutes to Berri Uqam, you’ll have late-night transport options covered. After the gig, head back to chill on the rooftop or in the cozy TV lounge. Whether you're in a private room or a dorm, it’s a quiet enough place to wind down, especially compared to louder downtown spots. The hostel’s flexible vibe makes it easy to come and go on your own schedule.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for budget-friendly digs with a social feel
- Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list concert
- Couples on a weekend music getaway
- Fans who want a peaceful place to recover after the encore
- Budget-conscious music lovers who prefer spending on tickets, not beds

Food and Drink Options

While there's no on-site restaurant, the shared kitchen is fully equipped for late-night snacks or pre-show meals. A continental breakfast is served daily — perfect for slow mornings after a late night. The hostel is just around the corner from St-Laurent and St-Denis Streets, packed with restaurants, bars, and cafes that serve well into the night.

Nightlife Options

You’re steps away from some of Montreal’s best nightlife. From indie bars to jazz lounges, there’s no shortage of options nearby. While the hostel itself doesn’t host live music, its location makes it easy to bounce between after-show drinks and local venues. The rooftop terrace also offers a chill spot to recap the night with friends under the stars.

What People Say

Guests rave about the friendly staff, clean rooms, and unbeatable location. Many highlight the rooftop terrace as a standout feature, especially during warmer months. Reviewers also mention the hostel's relaxed and social atmosphere as a major plus for travelers heading to events or festivals.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms don’t have air conditioning — just fans — so summers can get a bit warm. The 8:00 AM check-out time is on the early side, especially after a late-night concert. And while the dorms are cozy, light sleepers may prefer a private room for more quiet time.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Montreal for a show and want a budget-friendly, social, and central place to stay, Auberge du Plateau hits all the right notes.

Homey & Holiday feel atmosphere

Liked: Amazing family hotel and hostel. Spotlessly clean and my dorm even had a south facing balcony to chill. Amazing atmosphere with a homey and holiday feel, best free breakfast ever. 5 types of quality artisan breads with real butter. The jam marmalade and peanut butter all looked homemade & they make there own Korean pancakes with quality syrup and more options to choose from (Buffet breakfast )Self catering kitchen with a 3 course meal vending matchine. Dinning room and sofa area with TV.I've travelled the world and this is the best budget friendly hotel I've ever stayed in ever!!!Will return next time in Montreal.
Disliked: The coffee could be improved even an option to buy a Cappuccino/ latta would be nice

Perfect location to get to...

Liked: Beautiful old house in the perfect location. Vibe of the hostel was older and there were several families staying so definitely not a party hostel. But you’re close to so many bars, clubs, and restaurants; it’s not hard to find a party. Free breakfast was nice - hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, pancakes, toast, oatmeal. Terrace was gorgeous but keep an eye out for private parties and wasps (got swarmed while eating charcuterie)
Disliked: The kitchen closes at 9pm and the common areas close at 11pm.

My friends and I stayed...

Liked: It was affordable, breakfast was nice, we liked the terrace a lot, nice location, and lovely staff. The rooms and showers were clean.
Disliked: Some of the towels we were given were stained. Also, having one key per room was inconvenient.

Fun, friendly, I’ll be back!

Liked: Great neighbourhood, close to transit (bus&metro), grocery store down the block, nearby restaurant and street music scene, rooftop terrace, friendly, bilingual, helpful staff.
Disliked: I liked it, but it’s very much not wheelchair accessible- many many many stairs. It is a hostel, so if you expect what a hostel usually has, this is a great one! Be aware, you may be on a top bunk, but they are comfortable bunks, there are plenty of washrooms and power bars at each bunk. Security on each room means you need two hands to open the dorm door, but it does mean your stuff is safer.

Nice. friendly hostel-type accommodation. Good...

Liked: Room small but fine. Communal area for DIY breakfast was great.
Disliked: Entrance to our room was via door directly onto street. Quite steep steps with large drop off final step to pavement. Difficult with heavy cases.

Good

Liked: We had a great stay, the staff was friendly, our room and the amenities were clean and the breakfast was fantastic! We didn't have much time to enjoy the rooftop but it was also great!
Disliked: There was an issue with the AC in our room for the whole time we were there. It kept on turning off after a few seconds. Given that we were in Montreal during the warm days (30+ degrees), it was difficult to sleep without AC.
