Passable

Liked: The location is perfect. It's in a walkable part of town near the lighthouse park to the east and the downtown restaurants to the west. The view across the river to the yacht club is nice. We were in Port Clinton to watch the eclipse and our second floor balcony was the ideal spot, as it faced south. The roof overhang kept us out of the sun except when we chose to put on our protective eyewear and step to the rail from where we had an unobstructed view of the sky for the entirety of the eclipse.
Disliked: The room is small and dark, despite having windows on both ends. There's one chair for two people. The knotty pine, 1950s look could be nostalgic and charming but there is no "decor". It's just a room with some furniture, a mini fridge and a microwave but no coffee pot. They do have free coffee in the lobby. The bathroom is pure 1950s and is very small. There's not much that can be done about that, though. There were ample towels. The bed was a queen size with the most basic of mattresses. It was not pillow topped, nor did it have any padding between the mattress and the sheets. The mattress was hard but didn't have the soft top layer to support my back. The two nights we spent there were about as much as my back could stand. I'd have been miserable after a third night. The sheets, blanket, and comforter were clean. The protective cover between the sheets and the mattress was badly stained, even on the sides. It had me checking for bedbugs. There were none.I don't know what they normally charge for a room here during the low season (it was April 7-9) but we paid just under $500.00 for two nights, at least three to four times what it was worth. I definitely would not book a week's vacation here at that price. There are many other hotels in town. The balcony/exterior walkway that was ideal for watching the eclipse overlooks the large parking lot, so wouldn't really be appreciated during a vacation. The good view was all to the north, across the water.

Too old for these kinds...

Liked: Staff was friendly. Hotel close to center of downtown which was the primary goal of this trip - we wanted to be able to park the car and walk.
Disliked: Room was very dated with many patches on the walls. There was mold on the shower curtain and in the shower seams. There was one light switch that controlled the refrigerator too - which we didn’t realize until the day we checked out - so everytime we turned the light off we turned off the fridge. (Wish that had a note explaining!). There was a gap in the entrance door of about 1/8” which allowed the outside in. The bed - the bed was one of the most uncomfortable beds my husband and I have ever slept in! It was the old fashioned spring mattresses and let me tell you - you felt every spring! We were both sore and felt beat up after “sleeping” in it! We had stayed elsewhere last fall but for this particular weekend this was the only game in town! Gave the trip an overall 6 as our purpose was not to hang out in the hotel and we enjoyed the visit and experience of Port Clinton on NYE very much!
