The Spotlight on Argyll Western Hotel

Classic West End Charm Just Minutes from the Music

Modern convenience meets traditional style at the Argyll Western Hotel, a warm and welcoming stay in Glasgow’s vibrant West End. Housed in a lovely townhouse with period features like corniced ceilings and a spiral staircase, this hotel is just a short walk from the University of Glasgow and a quick bus ride to the city centre. Set on Great Western Road, you're surrounded by the charm of cafes, bars, and cobbled lanes—perfect for soaking in that pre- or post-gig atmosphere.

Why Concert-goers love it

With the number 66 bus stopping right outside, getting to and from gigs across Glasgow is a breeze—even late at night. The hotel is tucked away enough to offer a peaceful night’s sleep post-show, but still walking distance to buzzing Ashton Lane and other nightlife hotspots. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, allowing plenty of time to settle in before heading out, while the 11:00 AM check-out gives you a bit of post-concert recovery time.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends heading out for a weekend of music
- Solo travelers ticking off a bucket-list gig
- Couples looking to combine concerts with a West End getaway
- Fans who want a quieter retreat after the show
- Budget-conscious concert lovers wanting charm without the cost

Food and Drink Options

A hearty breakfast is served daily in a high-ceilinged dining room—ideal after a late night. While there's no on-site bar or 24/7 room service, you're just minutes from walkable dining options on Ashton Lane, including pubs, cafes, and late-night eats. Bring back snacks and enjoy a quiet tea in your room with the in-room kettle setup.

Nightlife Options

You're in luck if you're looking to keep the night going—Ashton Lane is just around the corner, known for its buzzing bars, indie cinema, and lively atmosphere. While the hotel itself stays mellow, it's the perfect base to launch into Glasgow’s nightlife or return for a peaceful wind-down.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s location and character, loving the balance between West End charm and concert accessibility. The free WiFi, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms consistently earn high marks. Many highlight the ease of transport and mention feeling safe and well-rested after busy nights out.

Areas for Improvement

The hotel doesn’t offer air conditioning, which can be noticeable during rare warm spells. Some rooms are compact, and the spiral staircase means you’ll want to pack light if you're on an upper floor. Still, the character and location tend to win people over.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers seeking a cozy, well-located, and affordable base with Glasgow charm, the Argyll Western Hotel hits all the right notes.

Good

Liked: Very clean, well decorated, and comfortable with (nearly) all the things needed and no unnecessary clutter. (No pile of cushions)I had a single room which was long and narrow but perfectly OK and well thought out so easy to move around .The only missing thing was a glass for my toothbrush/bedside water; and the shower base was very slippery with no mat or grip handle.Breakfast was excellent. Would stay there again
Disliked: Not much, The initial welcome and atmosphere was a little cold (not ethnic Scottish)

Royal friendliness, climbing experience and...

Liked: very very friendly staff! No problem to have food stored in a separate fridge; quiet place; 15 minutes only to University and nice restaurants nearby: Crabshakk Botanics fish restaurant 10 minutes to walk!
Disliked: no elevator with long steep winding stair cases; staff carried fortunately suitcases upstairs ...The hotel is basically a relatively narrow 'slice' of an older building; only one extra room for breakfast. The 'breakfast' was so bad that we bought our own at Marks & and Spencer SIMPLY FOOD ....Scrambled eggs probably from powder; serial Kellogs little packages; coffee does not wake you up, sausages uneatable at least for non-Scots ... juices low quality

Superb

Liked: It’s a very lovely hotel in a charming location, close to the Botanic Gardens and the University of Glasgow. It feels cozy – like being in your own home.
Disliked: The breakfast could have been more diverse. It’s a bit far from the city center, but there’s no issue with transportation.
