Poor - 1.5 out of 5

Poor value for money

Liked: The staff were friendly and helpful.
Disliked: Before arrival we were asked if we would want to book evening meals as "... dinner fills up fast in our restaurant so let us know if you would like to dine with us." As it turned out there is no restaurant and the only food available were bar meals, which although of reasonable quality we expected better. Not table was reserved and we had to wait about 45 minutes before they would take out order as the one chef was too busy. Breakfast served in the jointly owned Ferry Boat Inn, across the road and down a lot of stairs. The "free" breakfast was continental breakfast offering croissants, fruit juice, cereal and coffee/tea. Any cooked breakfast was an "upgrade' requiring an addtional charge. The room was reasonable but could have done with a refresh. The bathroom though was very poor. The shower fittings were broken. The electric shower was either too cold or scalding. The wet wall within the shower cubicle was showing evidence of black mould at the bottom of the corner where the two sides joined. Outside the shower the raised plinth which the shower truck sat on also shower black mould and an open join to the floor at the rear. The toilet seat was loose at onward side and slid around dangerously when sat on. Only one part used toilet roll was supplied, fortunately this was sufficient. There was parking at the rear of the the building but access was through the bar and in the mornings this was locked up and since there were no staff to be found this required a walk to end of the street, up to the next street then along to the entry to the car parking, about 400 yds or so. Not the best thing with a full case of luggage and bags.

Our stay was as we’d...

Liked: Breakfast was served in a different hotel- not sure why but it was nice enough. The weather fortunately was OK to do this but wouldn’t like it in bad weather.
Disliked: To serve breakfast in the same hotel we slept in.

Disappointing

Liked: Nice welcome although new start unsure off info - had to ask where to park
Disliked: Breakfast. Next door in sister hotel. Only continental but no plates. Waited 10min by which time others finished croissants and advised no more - at 8:45 am! Only 3 pieces brown bread left.
