The Spotlight on Argyll Guest House

Cozy, budget-friendly base near Glasgow's top concert venues

Located just a short stroll from the heart of Glasgow, Argyll Guest House is a warm and welcoming spot perfect for music lovers on the move. Nestled on Sauchiehall Street, it's only a 10-minute walk to the SSE Hydro and even closer to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. This guest house offers simple, comfortable ensuite rooms with free Wi-Fi, tea, coffee, and those all-important biscuits. It’s a charming, no-frills option with a touch of Scottish hospitality.

Why Concert-goers love it

This guest house is all about location, location, location. Whether you're heading to a gig at the Hydro or catching a performance at the SEC, you can be there in under 15 minutes on foot—no late-night taxi stress. The area is relatively quiet at night, making it a restful spot to recover post-show. Check-in from 3:00 PM and a check-out time of 11:00 AM gives you enough time to sleep in after a big night.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable stay near Glasgow's entertainment scene
  • Solo travelers catching a once-in-a-lifetime tour
  • Couples making a weekend of it with live music and local culture
  • Fans who value peace and quiet after a loud night out
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want great value and comfort

Food and Drink Options

Start your day after a late night with a hearty full Scottish breakfast, served buffet-style just across the road. Prefer to stay in? Room service is available for extra convenience. While the guest house doesn’t have a restaurant on-site, you’re just steps from the lively West End with plenty of walkable eateries and pubs to choose from.

Nightlife Options

While there's no on-site bar, the area is full of atmospheric pubs, cool lounges, and local bars—many with live music and late-night service. You're also a short ride or walk from Glasgow city centre's bustling nightlife.

What People Say

Guests often praise the friendly staff, clean rooms, and excellent location for concert events. Many reviews highlight the value for money and the quality of the breakfast as unexpected perks for a budget stay. The quiet surroundings also earn high marks from those looking to unwind.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are a little basic in décor, and some guests mention that they’re a bit on the smaller side—especially when traveling with lots of gear. Also, because it's a guest house, you won’t find some of the amenities of a larger hotel, like a bar or gym. But for the price and location, most concert-goers find it more than fair.

The Bottom Line

If you're after a budget-friendly, walkable stay near Glasgow’s top venues, Argyll Guest House hits all the right notes.

Beautiful and comfortable room, very...

Liked: The location is very convenient. I also really liked our room, it had a nice street view, lovely bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was also nice and friendly.
Disliked: The breakfast is nice, but a bit modest considering the price and they have run out of some items quite early.

Argyll Guest House Danny's review

Liked: Nice and central. Room was clean, breakfast was great.
Disliked: Bed spring hurt my partner and myself. I suspect the mattress was up side down.

Very bad for the price,...

Liked: Good location, check in was straightforward, bed was comfortable enough.
Disliked: The room was so incredibly hot, I actually touched the radiator to see if the heating was on. It wasn't. But on a warm summer day the room had not been ventilated, and there was no air conditioning or fan provided. The bed and bathroom were clean enough but the paintwork and edges of the carpets were dirty. The room had a smell of old cigarette smoke that made me think the carpet can't have been changed or cleaned for many years. Really bad value for money. I've paid less for much better rooms in central London.

great time in Scotland, thankful...

Liked: breakfast was amazing; the room was spacious and clean; the staff was very helpful and friendly; and we loved being able to open the windows in the room !! We would stay here again - for sure.
Disliked: the weather was warm while we were in and with the windows opened (which we loved being able to do), we listened to folks at the restaurant/ bar across the street until late at night - this was a bummer. this is not the fault of the Guest House though - they cannot control "happy people" having a good time, but something to keep in mind.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Caroline Wed, 20 August 2025

Disappointing

Liked: Great location, terrific staff! Bathroom newly remodeled, but floors not clean and mold present.
Disliked: The smell. The smell of the carpet in the halls and common areas was overwhelming. Carpet in room did not smell but was filthy and not suitable for bare or stockinged feet. Definitely mold present and overall could use some deep cleaning and a few improvements (painting, ceiling repair).
