An authentic medieval castle.certainlynor full...
Liked: If you don’t mind the odd cobweb, creaky / uneven floor This place is as authentic as they come. My husband and I stayed in the castle for 1 nights. This place is full of history Craig the barman /chief/ waiter was amazing and full of information, I loved the uneven floors and old features, but it is all part of the charm. At the end of the day you’re staying in medieval castle. Not the savoy. We wished we had time to visit the Norman tower , we will definitely return when we have more time.
Disliked: Wished we could have seen more of the house. But Craig showed me round

Pleasant
Liked: Unique setting with loads of history. Good breakfast
Disliked: Not very clean. Staff often unavailable and not very helpful. Wine very over priced. Generally felt run down and uncared for rather than a unique experience.

Disappointed
Liked: The location was great!
Disliked: Could not find the parking when we arrived or the reception. When we finally found the reception my husband went up but door was locked and no one at reception. I had to ring the reception bell and finally someone answered. The door was locked throughout which was unnecessary. We had had to wait on one occasion 4 minutes after pressing the buzzer. A system should be put in places for paying guests to have access to their accommodation from outdoors. There is already a keypad exclusively used by staff for this purpose at the reception door . It would be respectful to extend access to this keypad to paying guests as is normal at other accommodation facilities. While the exterior stonework and lawns are in good condition, window panes had paint peeling, and the hotel interior was tired, with stained carpets and walls. In several places there were cobwebs on the walls and mould in the bathroom. The Bedroom walls were also scuffed and dirty with what appeared to be mould on one wall. While the medieval style heavy wooden furniture was in keeping with the castle aesthetics, the lack of comfortable seating in the room was an issue for us. We were also disappointed to find that our private bathroom was actually across the dimly lit and musty corridor from our room ( at night we had to switch the corridor lights on ourselves to see where we were going). The sink in the bedroom itself was cracked at the bottom and there was no soap in the attached soap dispenser ( fortunately the bathroom did have soap and lotion snd shower gel) the bedside table broken. The Windows in the bed room were rotten and three of the four windows had been painted shut leaving one window for opening to ventilate the musty room. The photos on website looked fabulous but in reality it is not!I did not eat at the castle because I was put off by how dirty the accommodation looked and the musty smell all over. Other members of my party ate breakfast in the atmospheric great hall.

A spectacular place to stay
Liked: Everything was great from start till the end. It is a 10 minute walk to the train station, and twi local shops, spar and coop. As well as other stores as well.On arrival we were greeted warmly and given a room upgrade. Then given a light tour and small history. We went to a local spa 20 minute walk away, and once we arrived back and had our evening meal, we received live classical piano music and candle light dining. The food was spectacular and reasonably priced as well. The cottage was clean, tidy and spacious. The beds were comfy and good WiFi.
Disliked: Nothing.
