Liked: Location was perfect!
Disliked: There is no concierge service and therefore assistance with luggage had to be asked as opposed to being offered. Therefore the reception team had to assist with the luggage if required. Considering a member of the reception team had a disability how can this be expected of them? Found that to be unfair to the reception team.

Comfortable lodgings in a perfect...

Liked: The location was perfect. Right in the center of the Old Town. Our twin double room was spacious and clean.
Disliked: It was rather warm in the hallways and the room. The carpeting in the hallways looked old and in our bathroom we had loose tiles with missing grout

The views might be great...

Liked: Location was convenient, nice to have parking too (although chargeable)
Disliked: The experience was subpar and did not meet expectation. We were disappointed with our two rooms. The first hadn't been cleaned properly and had litter on the floor, the second had a really bad smell which I believe emanated from reverse airflow coming from the drains. I was honest with my feedback to reception who listened and dealt with my issue positively. Though they couldn't change rooms there did offer a small discount.My main issue is that the hotel falls into the tourist trap catagory. Punters will always come due to the draw of the view (the castle) and central location. Subsequently the hotel will always be busy and therefore little time is spent maintaining and upgrading services. Breakfast was also very slow and substandard.

Liked: Absolutely fantastic location and staff were lovely. We were given a room with views of the castle which we weren’t expecting. Perfect spot for exploring Edinburgh. Beds were very comfortable.
Disliked: The room felt quite dated/worn, due for a refresh. Still great value for money and would stay there again.

Liked: Lovely clean rooms with everything we needed. A good breakfast and also a very nice dinner.
Disliked: There was no information in our room about what the hotel could offer.

Disliked: It is old, empty shampoo bottle, tiny rooms, many stairs ago climb with your luggage, waiter in the restaurant for two days without deodorant.

Underwhelming

Liked: The location was perfect, the staff very helpful and accommodating.
Disliked: Too many stairs. I have a lung condition and have to take oxygen, so the stairs was not good for me. We also had a very noisy room. Room.1012, we could hear every door opening and closing, people walking past on the extremely creaky floor and a generator noise outside the window, so we could not have the window down. Plus for the price we paid for 2 nights, we'd have expected a better view than a brick wall. We were quite disappointed, considering I booked well in advance.
