I was disappointed, and surprised...
Liked: Some things were ok, like the bathroom, water temperature, fridge/microwave. The bed was comfortable, and I liked the assortment of pillows; some were flat and some puffy, which makes it easier to find one to your liking. The staff was helpful.
Disliked: The key didn't work on the first room I was given, so the desk clerk gave me another room. That door was very difficult to open, but I finally got in the room and it smelled terrible (cig smoke and other odors). The trash hadn't been emptied, so I questioned whether it had been cleaned. The third room smelled better, but the door was very hard to unlock and open, and it worried me that I wouldn't have been able to get back in after walking the dog. This motel could be much more comfortable with a little updating. It was hard to tell if the carpet was clean. The upholstry was very dirty on the chair and ottoman in all three rooms that I saw. It could easily be cleaned. There were cobwebs behind the chair. There was no convenient plug when sitting in the chair, so I used the outlet by the bed and my charger kept fallling out. It would be very convenient if power strips with USB plugs were installed by the bed. The bedside lights were so high that I couldn't reach the switch from bed (in all fairness, this happens a lot). And I guess the spy glass in the door was missing because there was tissue stuffed in the hole. Overall, the room seemed grimy (even though it may have been cleaned) and I felt uncomfortable. The towels were old and thin, but clean. The bathroom looked clean, which is important to me. ** Updating after my stay: I ended up getting a good night's sleep, and I was able to get into my room several times during the evening. The key was very hard to turn and the door required a shoulder push, but it worked. If you need an inexpensive place to stay on the highway in Abilene, you could do worse. (Oh, and in November 2023 there's lots of construction near the nearby town/village of Wylie, which is where I went to the grocery store)
