Liked: The location of the hotel is excellent. It has huge history, beautifully appointed rooms and a fabulous restaurant.
Disliked: We'd stayed at the Angel before and had a fantastic time so expectations were high. Sadly, on this occasion, they were not met. On arrival we were told that as it was a Sunday, there was no food available in the evening. Sunday lunch had been served but was finishing as we arrived. A hotel that doesn't feed its guests? Really?The room itself was beautifully appointed but so, so very hot. I fully accept it was the hottest day of the year but it was far hotter in the room than outside and it remained like that overnight and into the next morning. I acknowledge that the listed status of the building means that air conditioning can't be installed but the only compensation was a fan that had been assembled with the wire cage so the handle was upside down. This meant it couldn't be angled downwards towards the bed.The bathroom was the hottest place of all. Both taps in the basin were missing the end plug stating which were hot or cold. Getting a cool drink of water proved impossible. Once you'd established which tap was which, the cold tap ran hot for the first 20 seconds before delivering tepid water. This tells you that the cold water pipe is running alongside the hot water pipe which isn't ideal and made me wonder if I should ask about the last time it was tested for legionella.On the upside, the reception staff were lovely and it remains a beautiful hotel.I think that being transparent in the advertising that there is no food available on a Sunday evening and that parking in the hotel car park incurs an additional £4 charge would be welcome.
