A unique experience that we...
Liked: Staff was friendly and accommodating, even providing vegetarian options that were not on the dinner menu. We loved the atmosphere of the place.
Disliked: Because of the location of our room, it was noisy in the morning as we could hear the kitchen staff preparing breakfast.

Liked: Our room was just beautiful and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom amazing anf the shower terrific. We would definitely stay here again and we will tell our friends to do the same.
Disliked: .the offering of a continental breakfast was fine but it could be improved 1--The pastries should be served warm 2- There is a beautiful bar there in the restaurant which could be used as a buffet for the breakfast rather than having people line up for the food set out in the doorway of the kitchen. In such a beautifully decorated and ornate room, it just struck me as out of place. I think it would be a simple fix really...move the chairs away from the bar and set up the food there...accessible and much more appropriate.

AMSTERDAM CASTLE is a perfect...
Liked: This is a unique property: I really admire the owners for all the care and love (and money) that they have poured into it so if you are looking for a hotel completely different than the usual square boxes, this is a great alternative. I researched a bit of history: The Amsterdam Castle used to be the Amsterdam Armory, built in 1894 by the state for military training. It is a 36,000-square-footer in classic red brick, complete with 2 turrets and 134 windows that you can admire from almost anywhere when you are driving in the city of Amsterdam, N.Y. and the whole building is in pristine condition. In 2013, the castle was one of eight buildings to win an excellence award from the Preservation League of New York State. The owners are fully dedicated to this work of art and the Grand Hall is wonderfully decorated and serves as a restaurant for breakfast and dinner and also as a bar. The food served at dinner was at par with great restaurants and very reasonable (about $85.00 for two with two glasses of wine). The rooms are inviting and extremely clean with a fridge, big screen TV but no safety deposit box and a tiny closet; the bathroom is spacious and spotless. Bottles of water and a coffee machine for an early coffee are a nice addition. The floor seems to be original and is beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is an elevator to give access to the different levels and the public rooms are amazing almost like a history book. The parking could not be better only a few steps from the main door and free. Our stay was a fantastic experience!
Disliked: We love our stay but we were disappointed with the breakfast: coffee in a thermal carafe, yogurt, croissants, muffins and not much more. There is no area to sit outside; just a porch would be appreciated. The establishment is not heated during the month of August and the room was cold but a lady brought us an extra blanket and the room did warm up. Also there is only a small window in the bedroom but this is part of the architecture so nothing major. This hotel is located in Amsterdam, N.Y. ; the city does not have any major attractions still it is pleasant, quite green and has nice architecture. Those comments are written in a positive way because we still highly recommend the hotel and we will go back if in the area. Go see for yourselves; you will enjoy the place!

A enjoyable, unique experience for...
Liked: Unique property for the area. A great deal of character, not a sterile hotel chain experience.
Disliked: Restaurant is recently opened and still working out some kinks on staff and service, but has potential
