Awful -- worst stay ever.

Liked: This was my first and last time staying at the American Inn of Bethesda. Absolutely horrendous hotel. Poorly managed and maintained although the front desk staff were kind and courteous.
Disliked: We chose the hotel due to its prime location and the fact that we had to make a reservation at the last minute. We moved rooms within the hotel three times before settling (and that is the operative word) on the minimally acceptable room. The toilet in the first room did not work. The thermostat in the second room did not work. The third room was barely acceptable but by that point we were exhausted and disgusted so remained in the third room. Everything is in disrepair and falling apart. Water pressure in the shower was terrible. No blanket or comforter in the first room -- only a sheet. No microwave ovens in the rooms and an ice machine on only one floor of the hotel. Lamps were missing finials and light bulbs. The vanity overhead light was terribly dim. The rooms are tiny and uncomfortable. Moreover, we noticed what appeared to be suspicious activity by certain unsavory characters entering and exiting the lobby. To add insult to injury, we were charged $20 to park in their tiny, cramped parking area underneath a driveway. Worst place ever. Run do not walk away from the thought of reserving a room at this place.

Location, location & cheaper stay

Liked: Have been staying here numerous times over past 25 years. Great location & slightly cheaper than other Hotels.
Disliked: Checkout could be later for travelers.
