Pleasant

Liked: There is a great castle ambience and the driveway approach and gardens are delightful. There's some lovely inside rooms for a drink or afternoon tea. We had an early evening drink on the the patio which is inside the castle walls and has a lovely, calming atmosphere.Breakfast was good and service excellent.Generally the service was very good.
Disliked: The rooms are tired. At dinner you don't get an option other than the 5 course taster menu, which is pricey. .There is an a la carte menu but they're not keen on giving it to you. The food at dinner was average, nothing special.

Wonderful historic location in beautiful...

Liked: Fantastic breakfast, varied menu of local produce for both cooked and continetal breakfast.
Disliked: Unfortunately there was restoration work on the castle walls, so access to some of the grounds was restricted.

Liked: The grounds are fantastic the location is beautiful the hotel from the outside
Disliked: Lack of details no a.c in rooms, dirty, breakfast was ok

Not value for money but...

Liked: The position and the staff
Disliked: Overpriced. We booked a king bed, they gave us 2 singles which moved apart. The bathrooms are ordinary. Nothing luxurious. The ceiling in the bedroom had cracks and were badly patched. The ceiling in the bathroom had mould. Mould around shower nozzle and not spotlessly clean in corners of shower or shower shelf. We had to walk up a narrow staircase (servants steps) to get to our room. The toilet seat was too small for the toilet. Porcelain bowl came out 2-3cm further than the seat.

A nice relaxing stay.

Liked: Professional, welcoming and friendly staff.A great cooked breakfast!
Disliked: Some minor noise associated with restoration works.

Exactly what we needed to...

Liked: The old country vibe and relaxed atmosphere without crowds. The excellent staff of course, and the birds.
Disliked: Nothing at all.

Disliked: It was overpriced .

Poor

The castle is beautiful although...

Liked: We paid £655 for a room - the furniture and carpet and decor was tired - we were expecting more for that money. Amberley village is absolutely stunning though
Disliked: Our waitress didn't manage a single smile

Quirky

Liked: Room excellent but main bedroom windows completely covered with foliage. Should be cut back.Wonderful old historic property which was the reason I booked it.Very pleasant staff. Happy to chat.Very nice breakfast in the main dining area [only time we got to be in there]
Disliked: We were not allowed to eat in the main restaurant as it was an [expensive] speciality meal only which we did not know about [and didn't want]. No mention of this when I pre-booked the evening meal. I rang the hotel and asked when I booked if I could look around the buildings as I was interested in historic properties. No mention of the extensive building works which prevented viewing. It was a shame the 'unique' 18 hole putting course [as mentioned in the hotel literature] was not maintained. Staff did not seem aware of this.
