The Chicago Hotel Collection Ambassador Gold Coast

I was very impressed with the experience at Public Hotel. The staff greeted us at the door and were very polite. The rooms were clean and large in size. I would definitely recommend it to friends and it was a great experience.

Staff was meh, room was...

Liked: The staff was efficient, but aloof, and not in that "we respect your privacy and acknowledge your status, we appreciate your presence but do not wish to intrude" sort of way, but rather a "we are the best hotel around, and you are lucky we let you stay here" sort of way. For example, I noticed that there were about 5 hangers in the closet, and I needed at least three more, to hang up my heavy coat, my suits, etc. I called the main desk, and asked if they had any hangers. I was told that they didn't know, but to come down and they would find some. The clerk had found 1 plastic hanger, and said he did not handle such things. At another point I asked the front desk where the nearest pharmacy was, and they said I should go ask the parking valet.Speaking of which, your doormen and valets are good at what they do, and go beyond. While the front desk tends to dissuade me from returning, the valets make up for that.
Disliked: I travel extensively throughout the US for my work. Every hotel, even the most inexpensive ones, has some form of refreshments available, and I rarely find a situation where the hotel room doesn't have at least a coffee pot, and where there are no vending machines for drinks and snacks.

Disliked: The property had been sold to Chicago Hotel Collection. They would not honor our Booking.com reservation. The manager sent us to another one of their properties.

Growing Pains

Liked: We love this hotel and stay here regularly. The location is fantastic - close to transit lines, restaurants, Lincoln Park, and the lake. Great neighborhood, too. Very quiet and safe to walk around, even at night.Very impressed with the young man who checked us in - he welcomed us as valued repeat customers.
Disliked: Apparently, JDV Hyatt sold this hotel to The Chicago Collection about a month ago. Transitions are difficult, but we still should have received cleaning services at least every other day. We had to request towels on the 3rd day. I was a little disappointed with checkout. There was no obvious location to drop keys and the woman behind the desk didn't acknowledge that I existed. There was another customer also waiting (perhaps being assisted - she was on her phone), but the woman at the desk didn't even look up. After about 5 minutes (I'm pretty patient) I asked where to leave keys and if I needed to complete any tasks before leaving. She said to just leave them on the desk. No goodbye, no hope to see you again soon, nada. Kind of not the vibe we usually get from The Ambassador. Hoping it will be better next time.
