The Spotlight on Altnaharra Hotel

Tranquil Highland Retreat with a Cozy Vibe

Nestled in the remote and stunning Scottish Highlands, the Altnaharra Hotel is a charming countryside getaway in Lairg, just outside Inverness. This historic property blends rustic charm with modern touches like flat-screen TVs, free WiFi, and updated private bathrooms in every room. Surrounded by natural beauty, it’s an ideal spot for music fans wanting to decompress after a big night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

While it’s not in the heart of a nightlife hub, Altnaharra Hotel is perfect for those attending concerts in Inverness who prefer a peaceful place to unwind after the show. With free parking, flexible check-in from 15:00, and check-out at 11:00, it’s a stress-free base for your music-fueled trip. The quiet location makes it great for catching up on sleep post-gig, and the cozy shared lounge is a nice spot to talk setlists or just relax.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends exploring Scotland with a concert stop in Inverness

Food and Drink Options

The hotel features an on-site restaurant and bar, serving up hearty meals and drinks perfect after a long day of travel and music. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the onsite dining is convenient and satisfying. Some rooms even come with full kitchens for DIY dining. Breakfast is available and ideal for those late gig nights.

Nightlife Options

This hotel is more about calm than clubbing, but that’s part of its charm. Relax with a drink in the hotel’s on-site bar or enjoy a low-key evening in the lounge. For those craving more action, Inverness nightlife is a scenic drive away – best if you’ve got a designated driver or don’t mind planning transport ahead.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, spotlessly clean rooms, and the peaceful, authentic Highland surroundings. Many mention the hotel’s homey atmosphere and say it feels like a true escape from the city. It’s especially appreciated for its scenic views and welcoming vibe.

Areas for Improvement

The remote location won’t suit everyone—expect to drive to and from concert venues. Public transport options are limited, so plan accordingly. Some guests have noted that mobile phone signal can be spotty, but that might be just what you need to unplug post-show.

The Bottom Line

If you’re heading to a concert in Inverness and want a peaceful, Highland hideaway to rest and recharge, Altnaharra Hotel is a perfect match.

An overpriced Victorian relic in...

Liked: Excellent location in highlands, but not so good for roads. Good food from kitchen on first night (both I and adjacent table were pleasantly surprised).
Disliked: This is a relic from Victorian times - with furnishings and (dis)comfort to match. Beds were very very soft mattresses. Bathroom was grubby and in need of repair, as was main door and corridors. Came back at end of trip on 2nd dqay - and room/bed etc had not been touched - no housekeeping done whatsoever. This place is so overpriced.I didn't eat dinner on 2nd night - the look of the serving staff completely put me off returning to the dining room.2nd day breakfast - bacon was rancid. Not a nice experience - I left all of the cooked breakfast and exited.

Very good

Liked: Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large, nice and well appointed. The wifi was a bit weak.. but good enough for emails.
Disliked: The hotel is quite remote and other than their own restaurant, there are no other options for food. The food was nice but a bit pricey.

Lovely hotel, great staff

Liked: Really nice hotel, great staff and food. Not the most convenient location but the surroundings were really beautiful. We used this as a base to visit Handa island (about an hour away), climb Ben Hope (about 30 mins away) and visit Torrisdale Bay (about 30-40 mins away), I would recommend all of these places to visit. I'll definitely come back to stay in the future.

Very good

Liked: Very relaxing overnight stay. Barman who checked us in and was on duty that evening couldn't have been friendlier.Old school style room but comfortable and it had a brilliant shower.Excellent scrambled eggs and quality smoked salmon for breakfast.
Disliked: Great cooked breakfasts but lacking healthy options. Would have liked to have seen fresh/dried fruit and natural/Greek style yoghurt on offer.
