Best Home Away from Home...

Liked: Loved the location. Absolutely incredible, being in the middle of the rain forest, and yet so near to stores and gas stations. Also just a few minutes from Volcano National Park. Thank you for the Christian music playing when we arrived. And the handwritten note. Felt so welcoming. We had the music on whenever we were in the room. Also appreciated fresh fruit and snacks. We felt that our accomodations were above and beyond what we had expected. We chose Crater Lodge based on location and great reviews. So glad we did.We were celebrating my granddaughter's birthday as well as visiting the Park, and you made it extra special. It was a wonderful experience and we hope to be able to stay with you again the next time we visit Hawaii.
Disliked: Just a small thing. Would have liked a light above the table.

A delightful, calming and comfortable...

Liked: Location in Volcano was perfect for our needs, while waiting for a Kilauea fountain display. We also truly enjoyed the quiet and serene atmosphere of this lodging with comfortable beds. The garden setting was incredible with numerous different types of colorful orchids, abundant anthuriums and beautiful ferns. It was a wow! There is a preserved original old growth forest to walk though at the nearby Volcano Art Center (located on the same road as the general store), and the Volcano town marketplace (have to check on open days) offered prepared meal choices, vendors with produce and baked goods.
Disliked: We loved our stay here, but will only mention a few things to expect. That is this is a rain forest type environment, so it’s good to happen to be traveling with a rain jacket for the frequent light shower. And being at 4000 ft elevation, one might be surprised at how cool it is for Hawaii, especially once the sun sets. The room has a space heater, which is perfectly adequate to take the damp chill out.

A very comfortable stay. I...

Liked: I didn't realize it was like Bed and Breakfast until I reached the place. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is located in the midst of dense vegetation , just a little off-road. Shannon was very good in providing us timely instructions and information regarding directions, check-in, check-out, a list of restaurants/shops with phone numbers. It was a lovely stay. I enjoyed the quiet, the greenery. Had delicious fruit for breakfast. On the whole, a very comfortable stay. They thought of everything - extra blankets, drinking water supply, ample sockets for plugging in phones etc.
Disliked: The bathroom floors were chipped.

volcano vacation

Liked: loved the setting and the grounds very beautiful
Disliked: the bathroom sink countertop was super tiny with no sink stopper. I would have liked kitchen sink in the kitchenette. the provided breakfast was minimal, nothing hot only instant oatmeal and biscotti sticks ramen packs and no way to prepare your own since there's nothing to cook with only microwave. The Hot tub was old and half the jets didn't work duct tape patches and our second morning it was cold only 95° with dirt flowing around . everything else was fine.

Superb

Liked: Fantastic place to stay. really well located close to Volcano village (walk easily to the 3 or 4 restaurants that are there) large well appointed room, super clean and has everything you need. Photos dont do it justice, much better in person. Very comfortable beds, very friendly and accommodating hosts.

Solid accommodations if you want...

Liked: The location was great. The room was perfectly fine. No frills, but it was clean and it had everything that was needed. The bed was comfortable. Great base location for exploring the island.
Disliked: The description of breakfast is a little bit of an embellishment. They were fresh fruits, instant oatmeal packets, and instant Ramen. But, I didn’t choose the lodge because of the breakfast description.

Unique oasis in a tropical...

Liked: The location is perfect for visiting the Volcano Park. The property decor is unique and fits the rain forest theme. You can hear birds. King bed was comfortable. Host was very helpful when we asked a question. Directions were clear. Check out time of 11AM was generous.
Disliked: Bring flip flops to wear in the shower since the floor is pebbly (rustic and lavalike).

Disappointing

Liked: Excellent location. Big room
Disliked: No sound insulation. You will hear others in the block regularly and be woken, even if you're a heavy sleeper. It's so poorly noise insulationed you will clearly hear the discussions about PB&j for breakfastFruit and trail bars isn't what I expected as the "included breakfast"
