Aloft Calgary University is a sleek, upbeat hotel just a short drive from the heart of downtown Calgary. With its vibrant design, social spaces, and close proximity to several top entertainment venues, it’s a favorite base for concert-goers looking for a fun and comfortable stay. The hotel is only 4 miles from the city center and just steps from McMahon Stadium, making it a strategic spot for music fans who want to stay near the action without being in the thick of downtown noise.

Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is all about location and energy. Just a 3-minute walk from McMahon Stadium and a quick drive to the Calgary Stampede grounds, you’ll spend less time commuting and more time enjoying the show. After a late night, the relaxed vibe and soundproofed rooms offer just the calm you need. With check-in from 3:00 PM and a generous 12:00 PM check-out, there’s time to sleep in after dancing all night. Public transport and rideshare options are nearby, so getting to and from your concert is stress-free.

Food and Drink Options

Aloft keeps things easy for night owls and early risers. Grab a bite anytime at Re:fuel by Aloft, the hotel’s 24/7 pantry stocked with snacks and light meals. The on-site W XYZ Bar is a social hub for pre- or post-show drinks. While there's no full-service restaurant, you’ll find plenty of walkable dining spots nearby—and yes, breakfast is available so you can recover properly after a late night.

Nightlife Options

The W XYZ Bar sometimes hosts live music and is a great place to hang out even when the stage is dark. You’re also a quick ride to Calgary’s downtown nightlife, where you’ll find bars, lounges, and dance spots ready to keep the party going. Prefer something low-key? The hotel’s game room and lounge offer a chill alternative.

What People Say

Guests love the modern design, friendly staff, and clean, stylish rooms. Many reviewers highlight the hotel’s great value and its easy access to venues and transit. The pool and fitness center are also popular, especially for guests sticking around for a few days.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that while the immediate area is convenient, it’s more functional than scenic. There isn’t a full-service restaurant, so you may need to venture out for a full meal. Still, with so many nearby options, it's a small trade-off for the location and price.

The Bottom Line

Aloft Calgary University is a stylish, affordable choice for concert-goers who want comfort, convenience, and just the right amount of post-show chill.

It was a great hotel. I felt like I was in a labyrinth but that made it even better. Staff were friendly.

Really Good!

Liked: Great location easy to navigate Calgary. Nice rooms great staff! Front desk Jeyma rocked the world. Awesome check in she is what every hotel hopes for to be successful. Thanks Jeyma.
Disliked: Security anyone could access the property. More card readers for parking doors and elevator would make me feel better.

Never again

Liked: Breakfast was OK. Standard Free Breakfast
Disliked: Rooms were very small. King size bed equipped rooms were farthest from entrance. Quite inconvenient. Bathroom fixtures need updating.Promised pet extras were not supplied, water bowl and treats. Pet fee was charged. No area to walk dog, except city boulevard.Restaurant was terrible. Pleasant waitress but very poor food.

Once oriented to the address...

Liked: Tricky to drive to. The Banff Trail is a small strip of road running parallel to Crowchild Trail. I could see the hotel but was on the wrong side of the light rail tracks. Took a bit to figure out access

Poor - 1.5 out of 5

Not good

Liked: Location was good
Disliked: I had called a couple months prior to our stay to request our room be changed which they said would be no problem, I also confirmed this with them via the message option on Booking.com, a few days before our stay I called back to double check the change had been made which they said no the room has not been changed but they will make sure to update it properly at that time.. when arriving at the hotel I assumed the room changed would have been done but to my surprise when we walked into our room it was not what I had asked for it to be changed to but the original roomed booked, when I went to the front desk the lady had said there was no available rooms for the room I wanted because they were now “fully booked”. Eventually they were able to get me in the room I had requested. Room we ended up getting wasn’t very clean and quite small for the price. Also there was no heads up given that there would be swimming lessons going on in the pool in the morning which was really upsetting as the pool is quite small already without having to be cautious of kids doing swimming lessons.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Massively overpriced - very average

Liked: It was near the train and the coffee machine in the room produced vaguely decent coffee.
Disliked: Our room smelled bad - a musty sort of smell that didn’t dissipate at all. It was ridiculously expensive for what it was and the breakfast was rubbish.
