Deceptive Room descriptions , broken...

Liked: Location
Disliked: I booked the room as a "king room" and it is generally accepted in Australia that the room would have a King sized bed and a queen sized room would have a queen sized bed. This is not the case at the alex hotel. The bed was a rather uncomfortable, short and narrow bed most likely a double bed that is smaller than both a queen and a king sized bed . As someone who is taller who has a king sized bed at home my feet hung over the end of the bed.I cannot see how you could use the word King Or Queen about the room as it only consisted of a bed and side tables and an area to put luggage , not a chair or desk in site . It was small and stuffy with no character. I have no idea what they are referring to when king is used in the room description - At Alex it has nothing to do with the bed and the hotel is not regal in any way.The bathroom had a glass door that was extremely hard to open that sprung back at great force, the shower was broken and despite many attempts to change the spray mode on the hand shower it remained on hi pressure jet mode and it would not change to the normal shower rose . An awful shower resultedHotel does not accept cash as payment - It should be made clear when you book this hotel is that they refuse cash as a payment option. I selected this hotel as it has a pay at hotel option when booking on booking.com I would not have gone to this hotel if it was clear, I have since only found a small footnote on the listing right at the bottom of the listing that could have been added after I advised them that I would put this in a poor review. As I had an event to attend I handed over my credit card . When presented the bill they had charged a credit card surcharge that could not be avoided. this is in breech of the accc guidelines that a credit card surcharge cannot be added when a cash option is not accepted and is required to be included in the listed price. Upon objection they credited and recharged the bill ,

Liked: Clean rooms and great bar/ breakfast. Staff was super friendly and the location was super perfect!! I got a room upgrade which was lovely! The service was great.
Disliked: Even the location is amazing, the rooms would use noise cancelling because the area is quite loud. I was often woken up either by music or people screaming in the street - which of course is not the hotels fault, but to make it more comfortable, fitting the rooms better would be best. There is absolutely no closet or anything like that so it felt hard to manage a 6 day stay.

Great place and location!

Liked: Clean, neat and the staff are very accommodating and helpful.
Disliked: Can be noisy due to central location however the soundproofing door and windows went a long way to deaden - it's only if you like to sleep with a window open.
