Albion House at Ramsgate

History, good taste, great service......

Liked: The Grade II listed building has been tastefully preserved and decorated in a sympathetic manner, retaining a palpable sense of history. Our room at the top the house was lovely, with oak beams, a nautical feel and a superb view of the Royal Harbour. It was also spotless. We loved the en suite bathroom with its generous shower, which worked perfectly. The staff were great, warm and helpful without being obsequious, and our full English breakfast was excellent. The coffee was especially good, piping hot and freshly made - which is not always the case in hotels at this price point.
Disliked: There is no lift, and climbing three steep flights of stairs isn't for everyone. At the very top, where the walls narrow, I had to duck and turn my shoulders to negotiate the gap (I'm 6ft 1in). That's the down side of a historic building, I guess. The room was too warm (in April), even with a window open, and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work.

Liked: Location was great just a short walk into the port itself with the harbourfront cafes etc, nice bar area to sit in, staff were very friendly.
Disliked: bit of a hike up the stairs to the top floor but no drama

Weekend break

Liked: Location, staff was friendly and polite
Disliked: Very dusty, bed was quite uncomfortable, pillows extremely soft, no lift to go up so we had to do 3 flairs of stairs each time. Also, we arrived in the morning, the receptionist told us straight away room was not ready. Didn't bother greeting us nor checking our room reservation or asking our names. He took our luggage for storage without giving us even a luggage tag, saying they don't use luggage tags (didn't feel leaving the bags like that was too safe)

Luxury stay and highly recommended

Liked: Went the extra mile and served dinner after service was finishing. Beds for the dogs was a lovely touch. Bedding was lovely. Highly recommended
