A Cambridge House Inn, Cambridge

An excellent older Victorian home on Massachusettes Avenue in Cambridge about 1 1/2 miles from Harvard Square. The staff was very attentive upon arrival. The room was plush with details reminiscent of it's time. A beautiful four poster queen sized bed in the center of the room was extremely comfortable. The room itself was well decorated and felt very homey.

Liked: Excellent staff; great four poster queen bed.
Disliked: Gas fire place in room was not operating.

Very basic, clean, convenient, safe...

Liked: Location was very convenient for my stay, safe neighborhood, dining, grocer and entertainment nearby, T subway station only a few blocks away. Was last minute trip and the price and value was the best find that I was thankful to get in an otherwise jaw-dropping high-cost Boston lodging market. I arrived on a very late flight, office was closed, but staff was friendly and accommodating and they kept late arrival arrangements made in advance, no fuss. Plenty of towels, toiletries. Great hot water.
Disliked: Poor mattress, hard time sleeping. Switched bed, other was better, but still difficult to sleep on. Thin, basic sheets, An economy experience. Basement unit, no view. Compared to the rest of the Boston hotel market price it was a great value short notice find. Compared to what I'd pay for a basic economy room in another city or just a few years ago it's jaw-dropping for what you get. Ouch. Not fault of Cambridge Inn, it's just the Boston market. WiFi was slow and kept dropping, very frustrating.

Liked: No breakfast, good Peet's coffee. Clean, orderly, historic, quiet, easy parking, excellent market across the street.

Good value, great location.

Liked: The gentleman who checked me in was very polite, informative and efficient. The room was on the small side but comfortable and also quiet. The breakfast room now only has coffee/tea facilities but I expected this and there is an amazing market across the street where any amount of beautiful food for all meals can be bought. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean. The hotel also stored my luggage on my last day while I took a walking tour of Harvard. Good wifi.
Disliked: A small fridge would have been a bonus, to store stuff bought at the wonderful market across the street.
