This vibrant privately-owned Italian on Hope Street in Glasgow is a great alternative to the chain-restaurants of the world - the food here is moreish and authentic, and the smiley service is a breath of fresh air. The dining room at Pulcinella is a cosy mix of red and white gingham tablecloths, bric-a-brac and lemon walls decorated with colourful frescoes, and the space is perfect for group dining, business lunches and office parties. Locals love the menu created with fresh market-bought produce, and favourites include the spaghetti pulcinella with chicken, mixed peppers, onion, garlic, basil and chilli; the rustica pizza with salsiccia, pepperoni and zucchini; and the calamari luciana with capers, black olives, garlic and fresh tomatoes.

Pleasant - 3 out of 5

I booked this because I thought it looked quite close to the Theatre Royal. However when we started to walk I thought we were never getting there. The restaurant was welcoming and very kindly ushered us to our table although we were a bit early. Thank you for that.

Liked: The pizza, spaghetti and meatball dishes were very good as were the desserts of cheesecake and the lovely porrelli ice cream. The staff were excellent and really spot on clearing away and making sure everything was just so. It was quite noisy but that's to be expected on a Saturday with the buzz of Christmas in the air.
Disliked: There were four of us there for a meal after seeing The Jersey Boys. I would say the food was very good but the chicken dish I chose was a bit stringy.

Great 3 course meal. Well presented. Comfortable and clean, with pleasant staff and prompt service. Lovely ambience inside. Great value as we had pre-theatre. Would recommend a visit.

Liked: All good!

We liked the ambience. It was quiet when we arrived for our pre-theatre meal, but even when it became busy, we were attended to just as speedily and pleasantly. We have already told family of our positive experience, and will certainly be back!

Liked: Lovely meal, waiters/waitress attentive without being intrusive. What impressed my husband was that there was no one waiter assigned to our table. Whoever was passing immediately saw to our needs, and all were good humoured, caring and obliging.
