Cheltenham’s Hotel du Vin, located in the chic Montpellier neighbourhood of the historic spa town, is home to Bistro du Vin. Guests at the boutique hotel join loyal locals in the pared back dining room – or the al fresco courtyard if the weather’s amenable – to enjoy French flavours and... sophisticated wines. The menu is classic French bistro, though the ingredients are distinctly British; the Bistro du Vin philosophy is to source excellent quality produce. This means you’ll be dining on beef from Donald Russell, Martin Gilder’s Gloucester Old Spot pork and day boat caught fish, fresh from the Cornish coast. The wine too, as you may have guessed from the name, is something to shout about – the extensive selection has good wines at most price points. The charming dining room has floor to ceiling windows, black leather banquettes and rustic wooden floors; it’s the perfect place to kick back and take full advantage of the excellent wine list.
