Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing and dirty.

Liked: The location was very close to where I needed to be. The pillows and bed were great.
Disliked: The room wasn't very clean. The kitchen was very bad. There were smears of food on the door of the fridge. All counters were not clean. Something had been spilled on all of the drawer handles. I washed all surfaces throughout the whole place with a soapy washcloth. I was disappointed. I called the front desk to complain and no one came to fix things! I was in town to have a medical procedure. I will not return here. Also, my procedure was moved to 2 hours later. The front desk wouldn't let us stay a minute past checkout. They were unprofessional from start to finish.

A pleasant stay that met...

Liked: I booked a Limited Mobility room for a few days after knee surgery, as I would be using a walker and unable to immediately navigate the stairs to my nearby apartment. I visited the hotel after booking and was shown a room with good space for getting around and lots of grab handles in the bathroom. I left with the impression that the room I was shown either would be the very one I'd occupy a few days hence, or my room would be identical. When I did check in, the room I was assigned was not the same room at all and may not even have been a Limited Mobility room. It actually wasn't a problem as there was still sufficient room for me and my walker, and I wasn't able to use the shower for a few days anyway due to the surgical dressing that had been applied. So everything turned out fine, no harm no foul, I guess. The desk and management staff, on both my early visit and my actual stay, were to an individual really pleasant and helpful. The room was pleasantly appointed, clean, and comfortable.Having a small though pretty minimally equipped (for easily understandable reasons) kitchen was really helpful. It even included a small dishwasher. That we could bring in some provisions and have a refrigerator and prepare a few simple meals took a lot of pressure off the need to rely on restaurants and DoorDash, though we did bring in a couple of nice dinners. (Recall that I was almost completely immobile.) There was a placard advertising room service, but we didn't try it.A continental breakfast is available over in the main hotel for an additional $10. We passed on that as we thought we could do better with our own provisions. The Simply Suites hotel thoughtfully provides coffee in the small reception area until midday or so.
Disliked: It doesn't bother me that there's an extra charge for breakfast (though as it happened I stayed at a motel in a different part of the state the week before that included breakfast, with hot food, in the room rate). It does bother me that Sonesta also wanted to charge $10/day for parking. This smelled strongly of chiseling or nickel-and-diming to me, especially since the wording on the Web site about parking is vague and ambiguous. The hotel is not in a dense urban center at all. I'm sure the policy is one imposed by Corporate in the never-ending effort to squeeze more and more money out of travelers while appearing to have very competitive list prices. When I checked in, I raised an eyebrow in surprise when the parking charge was mentioned, a completely polite, relaxed, brief conversation followed, we looked up the wording that kinda-did-but-kinda-didn't mention the parking fee, and the manager on duty at the time seemed to agree that it wasn't clear and that the fee was BS anyway, and she waived the fee. So _major_ props to local hotel management for being customer-focused and flexible. Your mileage may vary, of course.
