Fine but Ive had better...
Liked: Cant fault the quality of the refurb and our shower was fantastic. Food was very good.
Disliked: As above the food is good but pricey, £16 is by far the most Ive ever paid for a burger. The suet pudding was very good but cheese board was a little disappointing.
I guess it didnt help that it was a particularly wet weekend when we visited but the venue is pretty remote, accessible via some very narrow country lanes.
I found the staff overall to be pleasant and polite though on occasion rather officious. My wife had barely stepped out of our room, mask in hand when the housekeeping snapped at her "You have to wear a mask". I was similarly chastised for having the audacity to take a look at the selection of beers available in the bar. We are both adults and quite aware there there are covid protocols in place so didnt appreciate being spoken to like children. Similarly at checkout I was told that my bill had been emailed to me as though I shouldve dealt with it prior to coming down. Prior to arrival I had noticed that £180 had been taken from my account by The White Horse. When I mentioned this I was told 'We dont take money in advance'. Frankly I wasnt interested in having an argument over semantics. Whether the money was with the hotel or not, it was no longer in my account.

Perfect weekend away!
Liked: We couldn't rate the food highly enough!! My husband and I often stay in different hotel and the food here was by far the best we've had anywhere. Excellent value for money. The rooms were beautifully decorated, service was excellent and there are plenty of walks/ attractions nearby to keep us entertained. Will definitely revisit.
Disliked: Nothing.

Superb
Liked: Very nice place to stay. It is very well appointed. Newly refurbished, well lit, good linen, nice shower and well decorated. The staff are very attentive and the food is well cooked and presented. We suspect it struggles with trying to be a local pub, restaurant and hotel all at the same time, but if you are looking for a base from which to explore the South Downs this will be hard to beat.

High quality place to stay...
Liked: What an excellent place! Even with the good reviews this place outdid expectations. Beautifully equipped room which looked very newly furbished. Comfy bed, excellent breakfast, loved the little touches like the little glass bottle of milk in the fridge for tea. Bathroom in my room was fabulous. The staff seemed to be very well trained and the service was very good. I had supper in the restaurant both nights and had a high quality British meal. Really enjoyed my time here and would go again.
Disliked: I liked everything a lot but some things other travellers may want to know:
I found it in a quite remote (but beautiful) location. Only access near the property were B roads that were single lane but two way. Wasn?t a problem for me but might be a bit stressful for those not used to it. Also, the rooms are upstairs and the rear access stairs are quite steep. Again, not a problem for me but I?d imagine might be tricky for others. Over all, would thoroughly recommend.
