The Spotlight on Strathmore Hotel

Victorian Elegance Steps From London's Music Scene

A grand and elegant 4-star hotel in the heart of stylish Kensington, the Strathmore Hotel blends rich history with modern comfort. Once the residence of the Earl of Strathmore, this charming Victorian property now welcomes guests with free WiFi, beautifully appointed rooms, and classic British dining. Located just a short walk from Gloucester Road Underground Station, it's perfectly placed for easy access to London's most iconic live music venues and nightlife.

Why Concert-goers love it

The location is a major win – only 300 meters from the Tube, meaning you're quickly connected to venues across London. After the show, the serene Kensington neighborhood offers a peaceful, low-noise atmosphere for winding down. With a 14:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out, there's enough flexibility for those arriving early or catching a late show. The hotel’s historic charm adds a touch of luxury to any concert weekend.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a classy base near the action
- Solo travelers attending a long-awaited gig
- Couples planning a romantic concert weekend
- Fans seeking a quiet and elegant space to recharge
- Budget-conscious music lovers wanting 4-star value in a central location

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Earls Restaurant serves up contemporary British dishes with a focus on fine ingredients – perfect for a pre-show dinner. The Glamis Bar offers a cozy setting for cocktails and even a traditional afternoon tea. While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 room service or late-night dining, guests are within walking distance of several restaurants and cafés that stay open late. Breakfast is available in-house, ideal for those enjoying a slower morning after a big night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more about elegance than energy, it’s just a short ride away from London’s liveliest nightlife hubs. Whether you’re headed to a well-known club or a hidden jazz bar, Kensington’s great transport links make it easy. For a quieter drink, the Glamis Bar’s classic cocktail list and ambient lighting offer a relaxing way to wind down without leaving the building.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel’s opulent character, the friendly and helpful staff, and its spotless rooms. Many reviews highlight how convenient it is for accessing both museums and music venues, with a peaceful setting that’s not far from the action. The elegant atmosphere and historic touches are frequently praised, giving the hotel a unique charm.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the rooms can be on the smaller side, and the historic building means soundproofing isn’t perfect. The vibe is more refined than party-focused, so if you’re looking for a buzzing post-concert scene in the lobby, this might feel a bit too quiet.

The Bottom Line

A refined and comfortable base in Kensington, the Strathmore Hotel is ideal for concert-goers who want easy London access with a touch of historic charm.

Pleasant

Liked: Extremely hot on the 4th floor. Windows opened only 6 inches and the room stayed hot even when the temperature outside cooled off

Spoiled by lazy staff ,

Liked: Great location
Disliked: Stayed here a few times before , but this time was not very good for the amount I payed , the room was very small , no natural sunshine , very hot and stuffy , could not move round the bed without knocking your legs on the dressing table , no plug point near the bed , after the first night we got back to the hotel , the room had no towels , the tea and coffee had not been replenished , the room not hoovered.. All the other times here where really good , but this time was a complete wast of money !

Thank you for welcoming my...

Liked: My parents stayed at this hotel for second time now, as it is around the corner of my flat in London. And every time staff is super helpful and very kind to them, which I greatly appreciate as they are a bit old and scared. This time they got a great room on first floor, as we requested so that they can use the stairs.

Disappointing

Liked: Good location. Close to Gloucester Road Station. We chose this hotel for access to Hyde Park, but it was probably a lot further walk than we had anticipated. Near to Kensington High St. Plenty of local eateries.
Disliked: We paid for a double deluxe room & we're very disappointed. The room was small, a rabbit hutch in the roof. Top floor, very small ( about 30cms between end of the bed & the wall). It certainly did not resemble the photo of a deluxe room on the website. No air conditioning. No fridge. One of the hottest weekends & we had a desk fan to circulate the warm air. Ensuite was modern but also small

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay as...

Liked: The location was excellent. About 200yds from Gloucester Road station with circle district and piccadilly lines. So perfect for Heathrow, central London, Hampton Court Richmond and Wimbledon.London was very hot so we appreciated the good air conditioning in our room.
Disliked: We would have appreciated a fridge in the room to keep bottled water cold.
