Scafell pike adventure

Liked: Our room was lovely and the location was ideal for going to scafell pike.
Disliked: No power generator when the electricity went down . Not the hotel's fault but they should be prepared for that situation.

Fantastic scenery, great walks near...

Liked: Excellent location for hiking/walking. The staff are very friendly and thoughtful, and very accommodating, the food is very good, will definitely stay again.
Disliked: There is nothing not to like.

Unlucky experience but we’re going...

Liked: Everything. The decor, quality and feel of the hotel was just as we had expected. The breakfast in the morning was really nice and the service was very quick.
Disliked: We were unlucky in the sense that within five minutes of booking the electricity to all of Rosthwaite went off until 5am the next day, so on the hottest day of the year there wasn’t any light, water or food available at the hotel. Saying that you don’t judge a place just from the good times but the bad times too. Although the electricity outage was completely out of the Royal Oak’s control, I must say that my wife and I were impressed by the way that the staff and Mark in particularly handled the situation. They managed to get bottles of water and ensured that everyone had water, he was up and walking around well past 11pm, taking people back to their rooms with a torch and literally going the extra step to make the best of a bad situation. With that in mind we are going to rebook so that we can explore more of the local area and allow ourselves to enjoy the Royal Oak on another occasion. Thanks Mark & the Team.

Exceptional

Liked: Excellent location with walks direct from hotel. Lovely and clean facilities and the breakfast choice was fantastic
Disliked: Would have preferred more 'bar food' rather than set 3 course meal, but that was just my personal preference, the food served looked lovely, just not my taste.

Liked: The hotel is well-geared towards walkers (e.g. it has an excellent drying room).

Liked: Food and staff was nice. The saloon to sit, read and chill was very nice.
Disliked: We had the room above the hotel bar, which was a littme noise but the bar closed early so it was no issue for sleeping.

Liked: Very nice hotel with great location for hiking. Very good breakfast. We also enjoyed the dinner menu. Choice of tea and coffee available all day. Very comfortable bed. The heating works even during the summer, which is great, when the weather gets wet and chilly :-)

Disliked: All very good with the exception of one minor point. When my partner ask if she could buy a hot chocolate she was told in quite a superior, belittling tone "We're not a Cafe"Shame the rest of it was great
