Quiet and unique boutique hotel.

Liked: Comfortable and unique room with a great river view! Able to walk along the river and the beach and wharf were also easily accessible and charming.
Disliked: Breakfast - basic continental, and chilly in morning. While it is mentioned in "House Rules", I find 2% credit card use fees annoying - who pays with checks or cash?

Liked: The property is a refurbished old house and is quaint and has all the features of a Victorian house .. noise from upstairs walking and that?s ok if you don?t mind foot steps :) it?s clean and central .. the breakfast is good but no hot food. We found it all very good except a little too pricy.
Disliked: It?s expensive..

Expected more

Liked: Nice looking building close to the Santa Cruz beach front and within walking distance to downtown.
Disliked: All in all it was an okay experience but for the money we paid, we were expecting a higher standard. The photos showed brand new rooms but the reality was different. We arrived a bit early and asked if we could check in early. We were told that the room wasn't ready yet, which was fine. We were asked to come back at the regular check in time. So we went out for lunch and when we came back the room still wasn't ready. The guy at reception was very apologetic. We waited another 45-60 min until we were shown to our room. We didn't expect to find a free standing shower unit in the bedroom as I thought I had chosen a different room option at the time of booking (but I could have misread that information). The unit was leaking a lot of water and towels were wrapped around the base to stop it from spreading all over the floor. This wasn't pointed out to us when we checked in. The shower itself wasn't very clean and actually a bit mouldy. We were woken very early by the rubbish truck and had difficulties closing the windows which were not easy accessible behind the shutters.

Disappointed and certainly not an...

Liked: Not a lot !!
Disliked: Breakfast very basic with over ripe fruit and dirty service area. Noisy room at night. Wi-fi not working in the afternoon. Water from the shower not draining properly. Not value for money as we paid over 200 dollars. Disappointed as booked it quickly and only looked at the over 8 rating by the picture of the property, which it certainly was not. Have since read more reviews and can see people are saying similar things.

Not Worth It!

Disliked: The Room was not what we expected. Room #5 was not properly ventilated and photos of the room did not reflect that the bathroom was apart of the room, leaving no privacy. The overhead shower spray was not working and the shower leaked water throughout the room. We had to use all the towels to absorb the water in fear of slipping! When we left in the morning, there was no one there to voice our complaints. This Rio Vista Suites was not worth the money we spent! We would not recommend or return to this hotel if we visit the Santa Cruz area again!

Liked: House was beautiful. Parking onsite. Cozy bed. Close to attractions and the beach.
Disliked: The breakfast was extremely basic. Being close to tourist attractions also means it can be loud if you want a window open. The air conditioner in the room was very loud, but also covered up the street noise.

Expensive for the experience

Liked: The refurbed building was atmospheric.
Disliked: There was poor attention to detail in the room, from some fittings or lack of them, to the poor quality of the bed and mattress, and the towels. These let down the overall experience

Liked: Unique. property. Comfortable. Location.
Disliked: Would have preferred separate bathroom and breakfast room located in the main house.

This was a fairly expensive...

Liked: It's a charming Victorian house within walking distance to the boardwalk and beaches.
Disliked: The room was so small that it was difficult to move around comfortably. Our two carry-on sized suitcases took up the available floor room and there was no place in the bathroom to put toiletries. The continental breakfast was merely adequate; there was enough to fill you up. I thought the raisin bran looked better than anything else on offer.
