Hotel Description
Wi-Fi access flat-panel TVs iPod docks and other high-tech amenities mark the transformation of the 1926 landmark hotel into the newly christened Public Chicago. After a head-to-toe renovation in 2011 the dowdy Ambassador East became the daring Public Chicago. Hotelier Ian Schrager wisely retained the neoclassical details of the public areas and the contrast with the low-slung furnishings is striking. Also still around is the famous Pump Room and the swank eatery's decor recalls the art-deco style that was popular when it opened in 1938. A "no color" color scheme distinguishes the 285 rooms which have 42-inch flat panel TVs and iPod docking stations. Safes big enough for your laptop are in every room. Everything is custom designed from the spacious desks to the streamlined lighting fixtures. Minibars are stocked with your favorite snacks and beverages. There are great city views from almost everywhere including the 11th-floor fitness room. If you're in the mood to explore take advantage of the free bike rentals. Parking is available for a fee. A few blocks from Lake Michigan the Public Chicago is a 10-minute walk from the shopping and dining along Michigan Avenue. Lincoln Park a favorite with locals is three blocks north as is the Chicago History Museum. The Clark/Division train stop on the Red Line is just three blocks away as well giving guests quick access to the rest of the city. Midway International Airport is 14 miles southwest and O'Hare International Airport is 17 northwest. With a "good location" in a "charming neighborhood" Public Chicago wins fans among our guests who cite the "ultra-modern" decor and "crisp and clean" rooms.

I was very impressed with the experience at Public Hotel. The staff greeted us at the door and were very polite. The rooms were clean and large in size. I would definitely recommend it to friends and it was a great experience.

Liked: The lobby, bar and restaurant were elegant, with perfect mix of luxurious contemporary fixtures with historic features. Such as 14 foot ceilings, with rich crown molding and whimsical chandelier.
Disliked: Overall, the location and price cannot be beat. Usually that is our main criteria. However, I would have paid more for a room that truly felt like a 4 star quality room. There was only one outlet in the bedroo room, and one in the bathroom. All of our de

Liked: Quiet location and the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in!
Disliked: The bathroom. The shower was uncomfortably tiny and not impeccably clean. The sink drained slowly.

Liked: The location was great. We were there to attend a Cubs game and it was only about 4 blocks walk to the redline stop. Very upscale neighborhood with restaurants and shops only a couple blocks away, so park your car and wear comfy shoes.
Disliked: It was almost too upscale, would have like to have had a more casual option for a quick drink or bite to eat on the premises.

Kevin Fri, 17 November 2017

Liked: It is in a great location, great neighborhood, close to The Magnificent Mile and great food.
Disliked: The room is extremely small as is the bathroom, the bed takes up the entire room and it is only a queen size. The decor is very plain, I know they are going for the boutique motif however what they have done just comes off as cheap.
