Whole hotel needs an upgrade. This was the second time within a few weeks that we stayed at this hotel and the first time the room we were in was a bit lacking in the cleanliness department - as I leaned against the wall between the television and window dust covered my shirt from the walls. The second time I came with my brother in law and sister in law and their room, no. 136, had an old, oil filled radiator and a television older than I am. Our room, no. 140, had no heating and the room was filled with a cigarette smoke smell which I know is not the staff's fault but neither is it mine, and surely the rooms should be checked over before people are given their keys? Anyway, to say we were disappointed would not cover our feelings about this hotel and as I stated before, a full renovation is required before we would use your hotel or advise anyone else to come to your hotel. Believe me, it gives me no pleasure to say this about the Swallow Carlisle hotel as my partner and myself often stay in hotels, but sadly this is one review I did not want to write but felt I had to write. Let me finish on a high note - I have nothing but praise for all the staff I encountered at your hotel - give them all a pay rise (if only).
Liked: What staff was there were excellent; best sausages we've tasted at any hotel.
Disliked: Rooms poor; heating non existent; not enough staff during the day; what staff was there had too much to do, as the bar was often left unattended because they were doing something else in another part of the hotel.

Good quality accommodation to the...
Liked: The hotel was cheap, and operating immediately post lock-down, the staff were undergoing a lot of challenges, so lack of breakfast, leisure club, and perspex screens round the reception were to be expected. My bike was accommodated in a locked room next to the reception overnight, with the receptionist who checked me in going over and above the call of duty with regard to this.
Disliked: Very minor point, for anyone arriving on a push bike, the hotel is on the top of a hillock, and there was a bit of a climb to reach it from the A6! Steps when walking down later that evening were useful and appreficated though,

Liked: Didn?t like anything the hotel was filthy
Disliked: Everything!!! They claimed the bar was open but all they had to offer was 3 cans of Guinness about a dozen bottles of cider and spirits. There was no draft beer at all. The bothersome was absolutely disgusting. The TV remote control shoul have had a haz Chem cover on it was it was filthy. Considering what?s going on just now this hotel has made no effort to deep clean rooms. The shower worked however it was leaking spraying the water all over the wall onto the floor. The showers also did not produce hit water.
