Great budget hotel in the city - can't go wrong after a gig.

Disliked: During the evening of 13th April the hotel fire alarm went off we later found out this was due to guests smoking in a room. Unfortunately hotel staff were woefully inept at being able to deal with this potential catastrophic situation. There was no sense of what to do, no sense of a fire procedure and conflicting advice was being given by the hotel staff ,at one point advising guests they could go back to rooms using the lift before even establishing the cause of the alarm. Hotel guests had to suggest to a member of staff it was perhaps a good idea to call the Fire Brigade who duly attended and confirmed it safe to go back to our rooms. We have since learnt that this is not the first time that this has happened at an Ibis hotel where the staff did not know how to deal with such a serious situation. A conversation was had with the Manager the following morning with regard to this and a reduction on the room rate was offered and accepted. The point of this review is to ensure that ALL Ibis staff are fully trained in fire safety procedures as this could so easily have been a very different story. Whilst it is accepted that the hotel could not have prevented the mindless guests smoking in their room the hotel could have and should have had a fire policy/procedure plan in place. This was witnessed by numerous hotel guests to not be the case on the night in question.

central location in Manchester

Liked: Central location of the hotel is the main benefit. The room offers basics for a short stay. The staff is pleasant, ready to help if needed.
Disliked: The room was right next to an industrial ventilaters in the yard. The window had to be shut all the time because of the noise that was really loud and constant day and night. I don´t think these rooms should be offered for guests at all. On the other hand, the window insulated the noise effectively.

I was promised a refund

Liked: The hotel is in a good location and was fairly clean.
Disliked: On one of the nights there was some issue with the fire alarm, that kept going off in the middle of the night - multiple times. The experience itself was horrible (waking up to a loud fire alarm in the darkness multiple times isn't pleasant at all). But the inability of the staff to explain what was happening and properly handle the situation was baffling. I was promised a refund for that night by a staff member and the next morning someone else simply refused that, saying "it was not possible".
