Disappointing - 2 out of 5

Pratis, New York City, visiting Eastman School of Music Wed, 30 July 2014

Cold environment. Cold front desk personnel. Picked this hotel because we were coming to see the Eastman College for our daughter. Thought we should stay an extra day to see Rochester. The "cold" front desk guy says " I can't give you a room because you booked through, you have to book from them. My immediate response was no way I'd stay an additional day at this hotel. First thing that caught my eye as soon as I entered the room was two bottled water with $2.50 price tag hanging. That was big turn off. Never will go back.

Disliked: Upon arrival Hyatt said that there was no reservation but my daughter could still get a room. When asking the desk for 2 extra PAPER cups, the employee said they could not do that. My daughter stepped outside to smoke a cigarette at night and could not re-enter using her card. She waited 15 minutes for someone to answer the bell to let her back inside. I will never go to Hyatt again. Paid good money for horrendous service.

My wife and I decided to leave a night early for our trip so we phoned ahead and added an extra night to our stay. When we arrived the front desk clerk seemed to know nothing about it - but it all worked out as they had plenty of rooms available. We decided to dine at the hotel bar that evening. The wait staff was very accommodating. The draft beer selection was a sampling of local beers which was nice. The menu was eclectic and although many items were tasty - they were poorly executed. The room cleanliness was the biggest deterrent to ever wanting to return to the Rochester Hyatt. Everything had the "illusion" of being clean - yet when I bumped the lampshade thick dust snowed down onto the nightstand below. All the air vents were coated with thick gray dust. There was a nail clipping on the shelf with our bath towels- regardless toe or finger - someone's nail was tucked away with the towels. As we were tired the night we arrived we didn't notice most of this until day two. The worst of all was finding blood on the comforter. The room was not clean. (Our stay was late October 2011.)

Liked: Hotel dining - hours of operation and staff. Hotel parking. Hotel Location.
Disliked: Room Cleanliness. Check-in difficult to find - front desk staff not very helpful or informative.
