Free Wi-Fi a gourmet lobby coffee shop and an eye-catching historic 1916 building all make the Hotel Whitcomb worthwhile for our guests. There are 447 rooms in this eight-story historical hotel. The cozy rooms reflect the building's Victorian heritage yet have modern touches like work desks and free Wi-Fi. The charming lobby has cathedral ceilings Tiffany glass and marble everywhere — and best of all a Starbucks. You'll also find a restaurant and lounge on-site. The business center helps road warriors make the most of their time away from the office while the fitness room makes it easy for active types to keep up with their workouts. Parking is available on-site (for a fee). The Hotel Whitcomb is in SoMa (South of Market) about a half-hour's drive from San Francisco International Airport. The hotel is directly across from the landmark Orpheum Theater on vibrant Market Street. There is a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) rail station on the corner and the classic San Francisco streetcar line travels right in front of the hotel. Take the 10-minute drive to Pier 39 where you can see everything from sea lions to street performers do a little shopping at Fisherman's Wharf and get a bite to eat at a waterfront restaurant. Moscone Convention Center is about six blocks away as are the Yerba Buena Gardens.

Staff was helpful and prompt. Had a minor problem in our room and they immediately took care of it! Wonderful stay and looking forward to returning.

Liked: Absolutely stunning lobby. Craftsman woodwork and stained glass, just beautiful!
Disliked: Nothing!

I will definitely book this hotel next time I go to San Francisco.

Liked: Beautiful hotel; central location, in the middle of downtown.
Disliked: Elevators are slow.

Room was small but did have large walk-in closet. It appeared to be clean and the beds were comfortable. Extremely close to Bill Graham venue. Very annoyed at the long waits for the 2 of 4 small elevators that were in working order. Worst hotel shower ever - long wait for warm water and miniscule water pressure. No in-room coffee so had to trek downstairs to the crowded Starbucks every a.m. Ice machine had ice about 1/2 the time. No room service available at all. Electrical outlet needs replaced. Might have been better satisfied at half the price I paid which was around $750 for 3 nights + $45/night for parking. I'd probably opt for the Best Western next time there's a concert at that venue.

Liked: Room was clean; very close to Bill Graham venue. Friendly, cheerful maid service very helpful.
Disliked: 2 out of 4 small elevators operable; very little shower water pressure; no in-room coffee & no room service available; had to set a bag in front of electrical outlet to keep plug from falling out.

Great place to stay in...

Liked: The location of the Hotel allows you to get easily to and from San Francisco on the Tram. Their are a number of restaurants across from the hotel which you can get breakfast from as this is not included with the hotel. Room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed for our stay.
Disliked: The location the hotel is located in has a lot of homeless.

Room was ok, Price ok,...

Liked: Hotel was good. Neighborhood was sketchy and smelled of piss and weed but that is not the hotels fault. There is a great bar and grill across the street.
Disliked: The parking was suppose to be included but then it was "valet only" which they ( or the partner company) charged $45 a night "but wait, you have a truck" (Toyota Tacoma- compact vehicle) "that is considered a large vehicle so we have to charge $65 dollars a night." Parking in SFO sucks so I should have expected it but hotel could be more upfront about the situation at booking.

All-around disappointment

Liked: The only good thing about this property was locationally it is a 10 minute walk to Hayes and close to Muni and Bart access.
Disliked: Hopefully I don?t leave anything out. The room I was located in overlooked the driveway and one night, I was awoken by two bums having a full blown screaming battle and then again 3 hours later with a domestic disturbance. The room was clean enough to stay in but not clean enough for me to book again. They don?t clean under the nightstands, so if you have to retrieve a fallen charging cable, the retrieval is gross.I bought a bottle of wine and the front desk staff did not have a bottle opener. Seems like a pretty common item to have.The keys to the rooms demagnetize super easily. Forget about trying to juggle your phone and the key in the same hand...now the card doesn?t work.

Checking out experience isn?t acceptable

Disliked: Checking out took over 30 minutes. Employee Christina said she was having issues with their ?new? computer system. Apparently she made some type of error. Finally a Manager named Jennifer came over to help her which took another 10 minutes or so. Manager didn't apologize for inconvenience etc.
