John, Knoxville, visiting The Cutting Room New York Mon, 21 January 2019

Thumbs down. Only good thing was the location to the show we attended. Besides the things mentioned above under what was bad, the bottom drawer in the dresser under the TV was broken.

Liked: The location; the bell captains were friendly and helpful.
Disliked: The bedspread smelled like it was sprayed with perfume - overwhelming! The bathroom drain was clogged! We were never able to get WiFi. No washcloths. Long waiting lines to check in and check out at prime times.

Patricia, Washington, visiting Stephan Weiss Studio Wed, 10 April 2013

Arriving with raised eyebrows based on a few bad reviews for this hotel, I was pleasantly surprised to find it had a prime location, increasing the accessibility of my planned visit sites, as well as aged but a clean lined format in the room provided. The front desk service was excellent, as was the proximity of restaurants, sites, and shopping near the hotel. Despite some of the warnings posted on the internet reviews, I did not feel unsafe or threatened (as a single woman traveling alone) in this property. While this is not necessarily a luxury property, I will certainly return again and again during my quick trips to NYC, and recommend its cleanliness, comfort, and convenient location to all who visit the city.

Liked: Front desk clerk; cleanliness; location.

Completedly dissapointed! I do not...

Liked: The location is very concenience to access to train, bus, hop on hop off bus. In front of Penn Station.
Disliked: The hotel is so old. Everything is out of date and look very old and dirty. The toilet is so old, small, broken sink,...which make me feel not want to enter in... The room has no any facility: no refregirator, no sketle or coffee making device. No tea, coffee or water comprimentary. All of wall, door, curtain, carpet are old and look dirty! Not air conditioner, just an old model of heating device which run very loudly.... When we book on, it shown that breakfast included for 4 peoples per Room of 4 single beds. But when we check in, we just receive only 02 complimentary breakfast vouchers for only 02 persons. And if using such voucher, we just get only one of sweet cake, a bottle of fruilt jeuce and tea or coffer.... And not enough place for you to sit down for breakfast. You nearly have to stand up for beakfast!!! No any resroom for guest in lobby! If you check out on 11 am and want to leave your luggage in couple of hours in the lobby, you have to pay for 5$/ pcs!!! I cannot imagine why there is an old hotel with poor facility, unfriendly services like this hotel still exist in center of New York now, in the year of 2019! Totally disappointed!

Liked: Location, although the hotel is clean ,it could use some updating . Maybe bring it into the 90"s at least
Disliked: The decor is early 70's "the Shining"esque.

Ruin your NYC stay if...

Liked: Only Location
Disliked: Full of dust in the room. Cracked bathroom tubs and moldy tiles. Rusty faucets. Carpets seems never steam cleaned. Stained and stinky. This is pet allowed hotel. So you should hear barking and dog noises. They never separate pet floor. So you don't know your room has been pet's room in previous stays. Staffs are extremely unkind. I visit 4 time in a night to open the room, because hotel from room key did not working properly. They double locked my room. Never say sorry or appologies for 4 times back and forth to front and room. It is bit cheaper than other manhattan hotels, but this hotel will ruin your entire NYC trips. Pay little more to choose other hotel. This is true!! Don't take your change to stay this hotel. Oh I forgot. When you drop off your family and luggage for few minutes in the front of hotel with your car. Valet parking guys yelled pull out your cars and scared you to get ticket. Taxi also block cars to drop off. No proper drop off zone. I traveled a lot. but this is the worst Horrible hotel I ever stayed.

Do not stay here

Liked: Free breakfast was good as we weren?t expecting it and perfect for us as we don?t eat a big breakfast that early in the morning so a muffin/coffee was perfect
Disliked: Rat traps in the rooms, plug sockets hanging off the walls, carpet looked like it hadn?t been cleaned in 30 years! No duvet on beds just a thin sheet which looked like it came from the 70?s. Bathroom disgusting, taps mouldy, bath plug broken and dangerous if stood on. Front desk staff rude and queues to see a member of staff over an hour long!

Liked: Wonderful location! The Manhattan mall is around the corner, Penn Station (with a wonderful variety of food) is across the street and Times Square is a few short blocks uptown! All in all, you're in the middle of everything important in midtown.
Disliked: There aren't any smoking rooms and I'm not crazy about this "resort fee" that essentially makes the per-night cost look WAY more competitive than it really is. One room I stayed in (I've spent about 8 out of the last 10 nights in this hotel) didn't have heat and there wasn't an outlet by the bed to charge my phone, and two of the rooms have the old style TVs, opposed to the flat panel type.

Convenient, safe location.

Liked: Location and safe place to stay. And express check out with room key drop.
Disliked: I kept having to ask for a wash cloth.
