Looking for a basic place to stay in NYC, not too far from it all? This is it - what you would expect from this type of place at this level of price. Room needs some refreshing, which they are in the process of doing, but for the money, just what you need. It has all you need, with nice, accommodating people to help you, at the right price. Not where you would go to celebrate a special occasion, except at the great bar, or to experience upscale resort living.
Liked: Very friendly, accommodating staff; convenience; clean room; really nice bar; economical.
Disliked: Thread-bare easy chair in the room; very difficult to flush toilet,

Customer service at the reception desk was average. The carpets in the common area were dingy and the rooms were not the greatest (old furniture, cracks in the walls and small compared to other Holiday Inns we have stayed at). Location was a plus.
Liked: The location was great because it was an easy walk to the places we wanted to visit. Domingo, the concierge, was also very friendly and helpful.
Disliked: Had to sleep with the windows open for ventilation because the AC/Heater unit's control did not work.

The toilet barely flushed here - a few times I thought it was broken. When you walk into the hotel it is beautiful and then you open the door to your room and it is just average. The heater in our room shot out cold air all night.
Liked: Bed, staff
Disliked: Bathroom, heater

For the price payed I thought it was horrible...the room had a horrible smell of smoke (it was a nonsmoking room)..no safe in the room...the toilet barely flushed...and when asked if they had a buisness center i was told no...then I saw they did and tried to print something out and the computer was sooo slow and by the time i got to the page to print out tickets it was $8.00 later...not happy..very disappointed.

Liked: The hotel was conveniently located. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Very nice pillows. We stayed on the 12th floor which was nice. In the city for a Broadway show. The theatre district was about a 30 minute walk away. We would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. The front desk staff were very nice.
Disliked: Nothing negative

Liked: Bell hops very friendly and helpful. Hotel held our bags after check out. Room was clean.
Disliked: Older hotel. There was some type of insulation type material hanging out of bathroom fan. Rust on most metal objects in bathroom. Forgot something in car. $10 charge to bring up car. Staff said parking manager can check the car. Parking staff said no. There should be communication between staff and parking.

Liked: Room was clean and pretty for a low price. Hotel location is near of everything. I got there at 11am and they allowedme do the check in at this time so didn't have to wait until 3pm.
Disliked: Parking staff were kind of impolite.

Disliked: The elevator took too long!!!!

Liked: The staff was pleasant and helped out when my room key didn't work. Check in was a breeze.
Disliked: Waiting to use the elevator was time consuming. Going from the lobby to our room there was always a line of people and only two elevators for the whole building. Luckily we were in the top half of the building so going down was easy. We did stop on the way down to pick up more people but by the time we were in the lower half of the floors our elevator was full and those waiting had to keep waiting for one with room in it.

Liked: Bed was comfy.
Disliked: Rooms are really small; toilets look like they belong in a public school; elevator was broken; hot water wasn't working when I checked in; parking on the property for guests should not be so expensive! We found parking a block away for $20 cheaper!

Liked: rooms were clean and comfortable, the hotel is old and could probably use some updating now that it is called The Watson, but would return as it was a value for the money due to the location

Liked: The value and location were great. Super close to Central Park, and was walkable to where my convention was. Great shower water pressure too if you are up early. It was not dirty, but it also is not anything fancy, as this use to be a holiday inn.
Disliked: We had a broken window and in the 20 degree temperature it was quite drafty in our room. Also the bell hop were quite rude. One was too busy talking to friends to hail a taxi for me when I came out with my arms loaded with luggage. Also, don't try to check bags that are open (like shopping bags). They will not do it and then you have to lug it all over town!! And, one last thing- SLOW elevators! Be prepared to wait 15 minutes or more if you are trying to catch an elevator at check in or check out time.
