Liked: The staff. They made my stay very pleasant. It was nice to get to talk to them and get to know them.
Disliked: It was pretty empty particularly because of COVID. There weren?t a lot of guests.

Liked: It is an amazing classic old mansion that hold the Hi Hostel in Sacramento! The inside decoration is very cozy! The place is wonderful. The hostel is well located in the downtown. You can walk to the Old Sacramento and to the Golden Bridge.
Disliked: I strongly suggest to the hostel to install individual light spots for the beds in the dormitory rooms.

Liked: This was my first time staying in a Hostel. It had a feeling of total comfort and friendliness that is not found in a mainstream hotel. It was quiet, personal and had an outside patio suitable for relaxation.

The General Manager is dismissive,...
Liked: The front desk staff are mostly friendly and helpful.
Disliked: Upstairs men?s urinal is heavily stained and stinks like it hasn?t been cleaned in weeks. Upstairs mens toilet has no flush handle (it is broken off). Requires removing lid from toilet to flush. There was a dead mouse behind the refrigerator in the kitchen that smelled of rotting flesh (it was only removed after complaining to the staff). Why are there mice inside this hostel? Faucet handle in upstairs mens bathroom is rusted and cracked. The coffee served at breakfast is disgusting (everyone is in agreement on this one) I agreed to pay $155 on booking.com, but was forced to pay $170 upon arrival. The published daily rate is a deceptive act of false advertising. They advertise an artificially low rate to the general public on booking.com, they then hide a $4/day additional daily fee that you can only avoid by paying $18 additional dollars for a ?membership? to HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL. The $18 is NOT included in the taxes/fees on booking.com. They then insult customers from the general public upon arrival by claiming that it is the CUSTOMER?S FAULT for not ?detecting? this hidden fee and should have read this BURIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ?FINE PRINT? or BURIED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL, AFTER the customer has completed their booking and ARRIVED ON-SITE with their luggage for check in. This is known as ?gouging? and ?swindling?. The fish stinks from the head down!
