very relaxing and well needed...
Liked: The rooms were nicely laid out, the whole place was very clean and the lady who served breakfast was very friendly and attentive
Disliked: The evening meal was not great and the waiter was rushed despite there being few residents. We received no communications about the swimming pool/changing room facilities (i.e. that the lockers, showers were not in use and that we would have to bring our towels down if we wanted to use the pool)

This is not a "resort"....
Liked: The room was nice. The restaurant waiting staff were courteous and friendly. Food was OK in general but not awesome. My partner had sea bass one evening which was awful - I didn't like it either (I was planning to have it the following evening). The menu doesn't change which is not unusual.
The grounds were really beautiful. Nice lawns and trees and we even saw deer.
Disliked: This is not a spa. So no good if as we wanted a spa break. You have to walk across the grounds to get to the "spa" and then only the pool was open. We were warned that the jacuzzi was closed due to Covid but not the sauna and other facilities. Also you need to take your own towel!! as the spa doesn't stock any. We went back and fetched the hotel towels (as they had no staff to bring us any). We had one night with no hot water - so no ability to properly wash after a swim. We reported this at about 5pm and it wasn't fixed by bedtime - at least it was OK in the morning. On our arrival there was no-one at reception. There was a number to dial but it didn't work. Fortunately someone came after a while. Some of the staff were great but others had a "don't care" attitude. You know management is absent went hotel staff just lounge about chatting! The tennis court is not useable. The chef needs to learn how to use an eggbeater. Please note you don't stay in the "Manor House" but a more modern building to the side. I didn't mind as I quite like brutalist architecture but I know many others don't.

Escape the city
Liked: All of the staff that we encountered were just lovely. Very attentive and professional but not intrusive or stuffy! We also felt like we were the only ones there which was a very unique experience when staying in a stately home!
Disliked: The food was average. However I accept that Covid 19 has made running a kitchen a bit of a challenge.

A great base for a...
Liked: Covid regulations meant that a skeleton staff was on duty. All very friendly and helpful nonetheless. This is a huge hotel, very modern with great décor and facilities. Super location for Woodstock, Oxford and the Cotswolds.

Liked: We had a suite and the room was extremely spacious and a high standard of finish. Comfortable and would stay again
Disliked: The restaurant was absolutely horrid. All the food we ate here was just covered in oil and seemed as if it had just been warmed in a microwave. No taste and it was extremely disappointing as we had paid for a 3 course meal included when booking. A real shame and the restaurant brought our whole experience down
