Great Location but not Luxurious...
Liked: The shining star of this property was the Chef who prepared our ?to-go? breakfast. He was extremely warm and friendly. He was the only one preparing the breakfasts for the hotel guests and still took the time to find my Husband and I, who were waiting outside on the patio for our breakfast, to hand us our coffees while we waited. It was a kind gesture that my Husband and I much appreciated. The location was great. You could easily park your car at the Inn for your entire stay and walk to get lunch, dinner, go shopping or hang out in the beautiful Waterfront Park. We love Newburyport and the people who live there.
Disliked: At check-in, the Woman at the desk quickly informed us of the policies/procedures and told us where the elevators were. Not particularly warm/friendly, but certainly not rude and answered my questions. The website boasts how beautiful this luxury boutique hotel is, and most would agree it is lovely, however it was slightly obnoxious to see photocopied signs taped to all the walls reminding us to wear masks at all times in the halls/common areas. I think we get it, since we are 14 months into this pandemic. I understand they have to do what they can to keep people safe, but it was just a bit much. I feel like a sign at the entryway of the Inn and maybe a verbal reminder from staff should have been sufficient. After we had settled into our room, I opened the envelope given to us at check-in to review additional information regarding the property. As I was reviewing the list of channels for the TV, I noticed some crumbs on the lower right hand corner of the paper. Kind of gross. It certainly did not come from me/my fingers as I was not eating anything. Kind of irritating that we are reminded several times on the way up to our room to make sure we wear a mask, yet I have to make sure I don?t touch a member of the Inn?s staff?s crumbs and possible saliva. As for the amenities, the Inn stated on their website that a pool/exercise equipment was available to use across the street at the YWCA during regular business hours. Unfortunately if you are staying on a Saturday evening, they are not open within the time-frame that you will be staying and you also have to call ahead to make an appt to use their facility as well due to Covid (completely understandable). The tea room was closed due to covid, again, completely understandable (and I will say, it was stated on the website, so we did know beforehand) but it would have been nice for us to be able to grab some tea that afternoon to take up to our room like we did for breakfast.

It was a beautiful historic...
Liked: The robes were unbelievably soft & I loved the choice of water they stock in your room!
Disliked: They said due to covid they wouldn?t provide unopened bottles of champagne, thought that was strange but we were able to buy one from the restaurant in the same parking lot.

Great historic inn in beautiful...
Liked: The Garrison is a beautiful, historic inn right in downtown Newburyport. The building itself is in GREAT condition the ownership has updated. Our room has exposed brick, big Windows, and a big shower. Garrison is perfect place for a night away with your husband, wife, partner or family.
