It was close to the Amalie Arena; nice clean room at a good rate. It was hard to see the TV at that distance. The only hotel I have stayed in in many years that did not have coffee service in the room. I would stay again if I had a need to visit downtown Tampa.
Liked: Clean rooms; very nice old hotel.
Disliked: No coffee service in room; TV too far from bed.

Liked: Historical, clean, great furnishings!
Disliked: Restaurant and bar was not open on a Sunday, pipes rattled when water was on, A/C did not cool the room. 3 people in room only towels for two.

Liked: The historic feel and charm. We had a couple issues with our plans (nothing to do with the hotel) and the front desk bent over backwards to help. I saw a couple negative reviews before we went and honestly - I don't get it? our room keys worked, the elevators are fine, we had parking, the a/c was perfect. Walked home from amalie arena along the river walk, stopped at a pub, ordered a pizza. To those who blame the hotel for the homeless? really? There were a few unfortunate souls out behind near the bus stop. Its a hotel in the downtown core of a major city! Quite a friendly group - we shared our pizza with them.
Disliked: Well you can always complain about price until its free, but by comparison with other places in the core it was great.

Liked: The décor and the history of the Hotel. The "Sapphire Room" bar. Excellent drink menu. Love the ambience in the bar. Love the old hotel vibe. Gorgeous chandeliers. One of the staff was very friendly and gave us some history on the hotel. They did an excellent job of restoring the building.
Disliked: With all of the beautiful restorations, they sort of ruined it with the paintings above the windows in the restaurant. As an artist I can tell you they were done by someone with crude painting skills. They need to be painted over our removed all together. The front desk guy was a bit gruff when we checked in. Maybe he was tired. Just not very welcoming. $15 added on to check out for parking in a lot full of giant pot holes. I think parking should have been complimentary and they should have some coffee and continental breakfast at least! Especially for the price. Close to river walk and museums. Very close to Tampa Theater. I'm a native Floridian and wanted to have a romantic evening for my anniversary. Beds were way to firm for me, but my husband slept like a log.

Liked: Beautiful historic building and decor. Spacious room (junior suite) with elegant furniture. Comfortable bed. Keurig and iron in room. The room was quiet though next to the service elevator. Helpful staff.
Disliked: Air conditioning didn't cool below 74 degrees. Bed and bath linens with holes. Old bag of potato chips and crumbs found behind nightstand when searching for outlet. Besides Keurig in room, no real coffee or breakfast available on the premises, but there is a cute coffee house 2 blocks away.

Liked: I enjoyed the history behind the hotel. Very clean and the staff was friendly. The beds were extremely comfy. Close to the airport, port of tampa and walking distance to food. It was a short drive to Ybor City which was nice. Since the hotel seemed deserted the rooms were very quiet and we slept like babies.
Disliked: I understand the hotel is older and has been remodeled, but there are no ice machines on the any of the floors and no small fridges in the rooms. The elevators were slow and not sure if it was the time of year we visited, but it felt deserted. Our view was of a construction building and we couldn't open our windows because we were afraid that the workers could see into our room. They felt fairly close to us.
