Okay. Very expensive for the...

Liked: Good location. Rooms were a decent size
Disliked: Too hot and you couldn’t control the temperature in the rooms. They were set to as cold as possible. Pool was murkyStaff were not that friendly. On arrival the receptionist chatted to her friends for a good two minutes before even acknowledging us. Expensive menu and no healthy options at all - no salads

Very comfortable with excellent food...

Liked: The property is very spacious and the decor is not our taste, it is also a little tired , however other factors made it great. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food is excellent.
Disliked: The decor!

Great weekend away

Liked: Great hotel with beautiful views. Clean and spacious room, nice warm swimming pool. Spacious family friendly bar area. Complements to breakfast chef and staff in Prego restaurant. Breakfast was beautifully cooked. We've had an amazing dinner on Saturday night at Prego, food was delicious, service was great. Very good choice of the gluten free child friendly food on the menu was a big bonus. Our boy was the happiest from all of the choice of food he had. We've been a little bit unlucky this time, but would definitely come back, as in general it was a lovely stay, hotel is beautiful and staff is a credit. Reception lady on our arrival was lovely same for swimming pool receptionist , breakfast and dinner chefs and staff and Lucas from the bar. Well done
Disliked: Think we were just a little bit unlucky. On the day we arrived we had a dinner at Antler bar and the fire alarm went off. We had to get out not once but twice. When we finally got back our food arrived and it was not the warmest. With my husband being a chef we understood that it is not anyones fault and just asked to put his meal and our son meal to the microwave to just warm it up. However our youngest boy, gluten free pizza must have been already done twice because it arrived stone hard and cheese was literally dark brown. Should not send out pizza . We've asked for a burger instead just plain no chips salads or anything. Had to wait 20 minutes and when the burger arrived it was the size of them mini party burgers, but he was hungry and happy to eat some food finally. Still we were charged for the burned pizza. Cannot comment on the room cleaning service as our room was not serviced. We've greeted the staff on the corridor and left around 9am. We got back at 4 pm and the room was how we've left it. With 4 of us after trip boys had some J2Os in the room and bins were quite full, just in general when you get away for a weekend and pay the price it would be just nice to come back to a nice clean hotel room and not have to do it yourself for once. Guess I was the most disappointed one. Next day in reception they had the info that the sign was out on the door. It was until 9 am. When we left me and my son took it off. There was no sign from 9am till 4pm and the room should have been serviced!! Saturday night after beautiful meal in the restaurant we went to the bar. Boys were playing billiards My husband went to the bar to get me some G&T there were 3 staff members there and told him he couldn't get any because they've run out of ice. It was Saturday 9 pm and not that busy.

Really lovely

Liked: Beautiful property and very comfortable stay, the reception staff, Joanne in particular was lovely and so helpful. The views from this place were stunning. Me and my partner stayed here for my birthday and went to the Prego restaurant for food and it was amazing.
Disliked: There was only a couple of issues with our stay, the bathroom wasn’t very clean which wasn’t a huge issue but for the money my partner paid to stay it was a little disappointing. The bathroom sink was broken, the tap leaked and the water took ages to go down the plug. Apart from that it was lovely.

Plush but dark

Liked: Everything was clean and looked newly refurbished. The grounds were lovely and the spa was welcome after 3 hard days of cycling on C2C. Our son welcomed a 'proper' bed when he normally gets sofa beds or pull out beds or bunks in a family room.
Disliked: It was the most expensive place we stayed on the trip, more than three times the price of the hotel the next night. Nothing was wrong (except it all felt very dark and overly interior designed bit that is just a taste thing), just not great value for money.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing

Liked: The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Disliked: The changing facilities at the leisure centre were not clean. The bar took so long to bring our food (1hr and 10mins) that we ended up having to cancel our meals.

Mostly fantastic

Liked: The hotel was lovely. Lots of art work and decoration that was different and sparked conversation and interest. Room was great too. Lady on pool reception and hotel reception were fab. Family friendly (apart from breakfast prices)
Disliked: Pool facilities were good but are getting tired. Bad experience in bar restaurant where whatever I ordered, staff came back and said they had run out of that thing (happened 3 times). Then when food came for husband and I, we asked where children’s meals were (ordered first). We were told the check had not been put into kitchen and they would come asap. Whilst eating our meals and waiting for children’s food, another burger (my husbands meal) and a lasagne(which I had tried to order but was told was sold out) was delivered to our table. The children’s food eventually came and was satisfactory. When bill came, I was charged for lasagne!!

A pleasant night away in...

Liked: The breakfast was good. The restaurants were good. We didn’t get the chance to use the pool but it looked nice. It was a nice place for 1 night. The rooms and hotel were ‘stylish’.
Disliked: The boutique hotel seems set up very much for weddings. The staff (hotel and restaurant) were functional but not ‘service level friendly’. I’m not sure there was much around except for the hotel in terms of location or other dining options. I found the hotel and restaurant very dark without a lot of natural lighting, and the lighting in the cottage was ‘odd’. The table lights were overly bright and the main ceiling lights quite dark.
