We stayed in Queens Hotel...
Liked: I should mention that the station Hotel was closed so they put me over the road in the queen's Hotel instead, there was no fuss, easy check-in and nice rooms although a bit hot, but the weather was hot also, there was a fan in the room that helped a little. All in all a nice experience and brilliant location for chester city centre.
Disliked: The Bar staff were quite ignorant, it was table service but no staff would make eye contact with me when I got up to go the bar to double check the girl just totally ignored me. I asked her was it bar or table service and she walked out without any aknowledgment. She did to be fair get another member of staff to talk to me so whether this was a language barrier I'm still unsure, but there where no smiles or friendliness, quite strange I thought. The reception staff were very friendly however, and so we're the cleaning staff. (Queens Hotel was where we stayed as station Hotel was shut)

Good location but sort out...
Liked: Breakfast ok nothing to write home about. Hotel good location easy for bus & train travel.
Disliked: Considering a 4* hotel, room not cleaned once in 4 days stay, if you are not going to come in & clean then make it clear and leave a bottle of bleach for toilet and bathroom cleaner & cloth, landed up going out & buying my own. Breakfast, trying to get a cup of tea & coffee was a nightmare, when coffee arrived it was so strong it was undrinkable.

Liked: Lovely room in general. Outside courtyard is fantastic. Staff are excellent.
Disliked: Room next to main Road was a little noisy but not terrible. Although generally clean the bathroom floor tiles need a deep clean. And although a small issue, biscuits in the room would be nice.

A great location but needs...
Liked: the reception staff were very helpful and did everything to make the stay good. The breakfast staff were very helpful and with the changing nature of the pandemic did their best to keep up with the changing guidelines. The bar staff on the Wednesday and Thursday were very good.
Disliked: The common areas were not of the standard I would have expected, they were dirty and needed cleaning (particularly the bar and corridors). The bar staff on the Monday and Tuesday were very slow and not really interested in doing the job.

Liked: We liked the Reception desk (cases), the Roman courtyard, the Roman uniforms and various sculptures and statues. Lots to see around the building although we didn't see half of what was there.More importantly, the Staff did all they could to help out, especially the Restaurant Manager who managed to accomodate us for the evening meal with my wife's sister and brother-in-law,who were there for her birthday weekend.
Disliked: Check in queues and bag drops in same area with no separation and people moving in and out through the queue not good.Arrived and checked in before 2.30pm and waited in bar until 3.30pm before collecting the room key. When we got into the room we found that it had not been cleaned, bed was unmade, discarded towels in bath, soap opened and used, papers left lying around and rubbish in the bin. I went to reception and saw the cleaning staff on the way and told them about the room. They said I'd been given the wrong room! At Reception I spoke with one of the managers who said we had the right room and asked us to wait in the bar (with a voucher for a free drink) until it was cleaned. In the meantime, my wife, who waited in the room, had a conversation with the head(?) of the cleaning staff and made the point that we'd been put in a Covid unsafe environment which was not acceptable. When we eventually came back to the room we found food (cashew nuts) under the bed and there was quite thick dust on the lower shelf of the bedside table. The staff had left a bottle of Prosecco for us!Giving guests access to uncleaned rooms in these current times is not acceptable and despite it being one of the first weeks open since the lockdown was lifted there should have been more checks done before allowing keys to be given to guests. Finally, the breakfast left a lot to be desired as the tea was stewed in the pots, the coffee was strong enough to stand a spoon in and the 'hot' food was lukewarm at best with the exception of the hash browns and beans.

You will stay at the...
Liked: When you book this hotel you will stay at the Queens Hotel - your booking is automatically transferred there as the Station Hotel is closed. Check in there. Booking.com didn?t tell us this which let to a bit of confusion but has since been resolved. The Queens Hotel is lovely and is a definite upgrade. Staff were kind and friendly though perhaps overwhelmed by busyness and our room was great.
Disliked: Communication could have been clearer about the automatic upgrade.
