Great place to stay if...

Liked: The view was great. If you can get an ocean front room on floors 6-8 you won't be disappointed with the view. The hotel was close to Mauna Kea, the Volcano National Park, the zoo, and many other attractions on the Hilo side of the Big Island. There also were many great beach parks nearby that were good for seeing fish and sea turtles. We loved the little convenience store right outside the hotel and Coconut Island.
Disliked: While the room was clean and the staff was very friendly, the hotel could use some updating inside and out. The carpet in the hallway and the room was a bit old. The outside of the building made it seem older but the rooms were fine.

Liked: Great staff. Great views.
Disliked: Continental breakfast was a 4 out of 10

Exceptional

Liked: We had booked another hotel in Hilo before arriving but that hotel was scary and we didn’t feel comfortable staying there. Upon arrival we booked at the Hilo Hawaiian and within twenty minutes we were in our room and felt much safer and felt like it was more comfortable.
