Overall the experience was good. We were going to a concert at the Buxton Opera House, so timing was important midweek, and the hotel and staff were good. The hotel decor was not as I anticipated, pictures and posters everywhere - obviously somebody's personal taste, but not what I expect in a hotel. None the less we had a peaceful and enjoyable stay.
Liked: We enjoyed our stay - room was clean although appeared a little tired. Food and service were excellent!
Disliked: Decor was a bit whacky - our room was like an art gallery of John Travolta.

Just about adequate but I?m...
Liked: Unfortunately there wasn?t a food option at the Buckingham, neither for breakfast nor evening meal. We found that the breakfasts at the Miltons? Tap (public house in town centre) was very good (other options are available). The words ?you get what you pay for? apply, most definitely, to the Buckingham Hotel. It?s cheap and it does the job as long as you don?t have high expectations. My room was a reasonable size (bigger than I expected) and the bed was comfortable. I slept very well. The room was not too hot or too cold and the shower in the en-suite was good. I enjoyed walking through the park (Pavilion Pleasure Gardens) into town each day and managed to take some beautiful photographs too. Very convenient for going out for the evening without having to drive. The Derbyshire Peak District is exceptional. Castleton is definitely in the most stunning location and is highly recommended.
Disliked: A refurbishment is long overdue. The first impression of the front of the hotel is worrying. Inside we were booked in by a man dressed in threadbare clothes (including shorts in January). It didn?t look very professional at all.

Good
Liked: Location was excellent and price was good. As mentioned in other reviews, the Buckingham has seen better days but was clean, warm and comfortable.
Disliked: There is no lift.

Great, really value for money.
Liked: There is a lot of hype about being modern. I say, a place must have character and this one it has. Economical to begin with, clean to continue, what more do you want ? Indeed some things, even with a low rate could be better, like the cracked sink. They could also put a glass instead of plastic curtain in the bath.
Disliked: Cracked sink. Maid service did not leave any towels on the Friday turndown.
