Exceptional

Enjoyed our stay but sad...

Liked: We enjoyed the whole time spent at the Great Western and booked an overnight stay for our return journey on the following Thursday but on the day before, they telephoned us to say that they would have to cancel our reservation as the hotel was closing down that night. No explanation given, no offer of other accommodation but luckily we were able to book Travel Lodge at Wakefield from the Travel Lodge hotel in Matlock. Sorry to see this happen as every aspect of the hotel was brilliant and we had already decided that we would use the hotel whenever we were on holiday in that area.

Comfortable bed but poor facilities

Disliked: Room was grubby. First room was not fully functional. Non of the sockets worked and after about 30 mins we were moved into another room which was functional. There was dust and litter in the first room. Second room was slightly cleaner.

Well-located hotel which could do...

Liked: The hotel is excellently located right next to an attractive lake and country park. Staff were welcoming and courteous, and there is plenty of secure parking.
Disliked: The interior of the hotel looks tired with its old carpets and shabby walls. Breakfast was great for those who wanted a fry-up, but for us, there was a poor choice of fruits and yoghurt, and the kitchen should learn to make porridge properly.
