Good
Liked: The atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. The quiet location. We would stay again and recommend it to our friends.
Disliked: There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Better experience and value for...
Liked: Breakfast food was ok. Room functional, basic,
Disliked: Breakfast - room not ready at 7 am, staff switched lights on after we entered. No guide as to format for breakfast. Very very disappointed that tea is self service from a pump hot water flask. Black pudding labeled as Haggis, no alternative to fried egg. No one had checked toaster setting, shouldn't have to put bread through the toaster twice to get a coloured crisp slice of toast. Only 1 member of staff on duty, checking people in, clearing plates and checking availability of foodsRoom - Peeling paper on the bathroom ceiling not ideal. Concerning that when removing plug from socket on the wall in the room, that the socket moves away from the wall also.!!! Bar - staff availability. Twice we had to ask reception to get served (despite there supposedly being three bar staff members on duty!!) Bar prices are not listed and are very expensive! The bar staff seemed unsure and would benefit from refresher training.Hotel looks tired and in need of a refurbishment. Carpet on the stairs is worn, decor is old and jaded. Heating had failed as the room had two electric heaters plugged in when we entered. The hotel was not of a standard I would expect of either Best Western or a hotel of this rating!

Faded, tired and dilapidated venue...
Liked: The location for this hotel was excellent. However, there the positivity ends.
Disliked: This hotel was really disappointing and the rates are totally excessive. Admittedly, after complaining about the initial room into which we were booked- tired decor, stained and dirty carpet, wardrobe dating from the 1930's with gaping hole in one drawer- we were given a far better, cleaner room. The food in the restaurant was dreadful - the chicken and mushroom pasta seemed to be made with chicken giblets- and the breakfast was really disappointing. The waiter, Robert, was excellent however and full credit to him, he did his best to rectify the food situation. Robert was the one redeeming, cheerful feature in an otherwise disappointing hotel. Braid Hills Hotel needs a massive renovation: the stair carpets are frayed and worn, the decor is tired and faded and the water dripping from the light fitting in the entrance hall is not a welcoming feature- it personifies the dilapidation of the whole venue.
