If you’re feeling a bit jazzy, shuffle your shoes over to Gershwin’s restaurant in Newcastle’s Dean Street. With its starlit ceiling, chi-chi champagne list and New-York-City-style menu this bijou bistro is a stellar stand-out in Newcastle’s restaurant scene. Gershwin’s plays host to live jazz bands every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and you can enjoy the music from the cosy leather lounges in the cocktail bar, or from the candlelit tables in the dining room. The chef must be one cool cat, because we heartily recommend the tempura king prawns with Asian salad and sweet chilli dipping sauce, the grilled pork chop with polenta fries and hot apple sauce and the magnificently meringued Knickerbocker Glory.

Gershwin’s seats 150 people in total, and has three adjoining eating areas which can seat groups of up to 70, 40 and 35 respectively. The restaurant has previously seated up to 40 people around an individual table. There is live jazz every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, and the staff can book bands mid-week for special events. Gershwin’s is perfect for memorable romantic and special occasions.
