I used to go here years ago and be very unimpressed but the food and service now is excellent. Apart from watching your head in the very low ceilinged toilets, the only wrong note was a cold red chicken curry but generally food is top notch chinese a far cry from MSG high street rubbish. Lovely room under the Royal Exchange. £120 for 3 with no booze though so not cheap (as the City never is).

The restaurant was full, every table taken (which is always a good sign), however it was slightly too noisy! Food and service were OK.

The Imperial City is an excellent restaurant, the food is lovely, the service is very friendly and the surrondings are beautiful and very different. I will be back and would highly recommend to anyone.

Another lovely meal at this restaurant. The only downside is that the food is over-priced. The Peking Duck, while good, is double the price of restaurants that do it just as well. Given the number of people on the restaurant at lunch though, no one seems to mind that much. I will return, but not frequently.

I went to Imperial City with a friend on a Friday night. It's got a lovely ambience. We had dim sum as a starter, which were really nice, and crab cakes which weren't to my taste. As mains we had beef with lemon grass and cracked black pepper and clay pot chicken, both delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. I would go again.

I'm never disappointed with Imperial City. A safe bet for good Oriental food in the City.

Imperial City has an interesting menu - we were brave and tried the soft shell crab (which was ok), the razor clams (not keen) and the steamed scallops (which were delicious). Main courses were nice too - pork belly and chilli and lemongrass chicken, although the chicken was very dry. This said, really nice surroundings, fantastic cocktails and the nicest prawn crackers I ever had. The quality of the food was good, but not worth the price. Would go back if someone else was paying!

It is worth visiting Imperial City Chinese Restaurant for it's lovely well lit ambience, delicious and varied menu from around China and pleasant service. City lunchtimes can be a bit noisy and the service slow, but my lunchtime experience made me think of returning one day for dinner. Generally authentic cuisine with no MSG, which gives a cleaner taste to the food. Try the soups and the scallops! I'll be re-visiting for sure.

Very nice for a Wednesday evening. A little pricey, went for the set menu but only one main course each (which was quite small) instead of a selection of mains that you get at other venues. For such a big place we were all squashed together but the other tables may have been booked. Would go again.

The Imperial City provided an excelllent venue for a thoroughly enjoyable evening out. The service was first class & the food was mouthwatering. No rushing, a nice calm atmosphere , we will ceratinly retunr in the near future. Highly recommended !

A reliable Chinese restaurant with good food and friendly staff. The atmosphere was very good and the surroundings were lovely.

Imperial City has lost its edge. The food was decidedly warm and not hot, the dishes semmed to be filled out with fruit and not food, more lychees in the sweet and sour than pork! The speed in which the food is served is concerning, you get the feeling that it is not freshly cooked. Used to be one of my favourite restaurants, not sure I will be going back soon.
