Hamiltons, small cosy dining room in modern pub. Chose as only Scottish place found prepared to serve Haggis on Burns Night! (almost) One 'Modern Scottish' venue got oh-so-sneery at very mention! Good Haggis it was too - partner had in Spring Rolls as starter, me as trad main wi neeps n tatties. Whisky n chive sauce nice but more of it pls. Sweet potato n ginger soup a treat. Salmon wi lemon butter great, chips shld be chips tho. Friendly service, spot-on portion sizes, satisfying winter fare.

Hamiltons Bar and Kitchen impressed us with their web site but the reality did not match. It is a regular bar with four or so small dining tables, the menu is small and not all was available. Our bacon wrapped scallops were served cold in the center with limp pallid undercooked streaky bacon. They were sent back and new ones arrived - cooked just the same because they had spent the pre-ordained time in the oven! The bar girl / waitress tried very hard but the whole experiance was very poor.

We walked tot Hamilton's Bar and Kitchen from the centre of Edinburgh, it was a cold night but the walk was manageable. The scallops wrapped in bacn were really good and we wished we had just had more of them really (even though we saw the chef drop someone elses on the counter and pop it back on the plate during service). The main course of chicken stuffed with gorgonzola was a disappointment - sorry but nothing to rave about.

Hamilton's Bar and Kitchen - Fantastic food and ambience, good range of semi-traditional scottish food and modern classics. Great cocktails. Only a short (£5) cab from the main street in Edinburgh, or a 15 minute walk. Definitely worth the effort.

Good gastro-pub food. Friendly and efficient service. The truly wide-screen is a nice add-on in these times of RWC.
