Denise's is a place to eat if you want down to earth friendly service.

Denises is in a good loction on Southampton Row near Holborn, so in strinking distance of central London events. Service is friendly and food is good. Has a good menu of French food. Is not a top class restaurant, but a nice mid-range mid-price place.

Denise's turned out to be a wonderful exercise in "try it and see". I'd booked it for my regular Friday lunch meal around Holborn, and I chose it based on reviews. Entering the faded 70s-style atmosphere replete with weird wallpaper, naff but well-meant folded napkins, and a rickety dessert trolley caused an initial "Oh dear" impression. HOWEVER that gave way immediately when the food arrived. Delicious, tasty, fairly simple but none the worse for it. I'd definitely return.

Good as usual. But could be slightly cheaper.

Tourists yes, touristy food no - Denise's offers French dishes at very reasonable prices. Dish of the day sea bass was excellent value and attentive, not cloying service made it a venue to return to.
